Is there such a thing like Bitcoins ?

Am I reading right? A man wants to sell his house for Bitcoins, the new thing = "electronic coins", he says, quote: It won't cost anything to move that money. Huh ?

Am I going crazy? I like to follow when "money changes hands", I am old-fashioned that way. I understand however that many money transactions are taking place in virtual space with electronic transfers, and that is rather convenient. But, what IS this thing Bitcoins?
Further, how does such a currency hold up against the rest of the international currencies? And be part of the international debt fluctuations?

No wonder that he did not have a single offer for this house. The grounds that it stands on do not look that spectacular.
