Re: At Parfumo all issues are promptly addressed 9 years ago
Pipette:
That is the difference. There is a team of moderators here. And, if anything big comes up, the issue is promptly handled.

At Fragrantica a lot of drama results because the moderators (probably because of lack of time and dealing with a large volume of posts) don't step in early enough to not let issues blow out of proportion.

And if they do pop up to address an issue, they are butt-kissed like some kind of celebrities:

"I truly believe your philosophy is why Fragrantica has such a warm and welcoming presence in comparison with just about any other site I could mention. The longer I've been here the more I have seen that it takes an administration with dedication to create such a lovely site. For this and so much more, I am grateful!"

That is all well and good. The ones who like it at certain discussions forums have all their friends there.

Add to that the various Facebook discussion groups. I am going here and there, including Fragrantica, but don't have the time anymore (babysitting chore) to elaborate and spread out.

When at certain times the internet is not available (and the computer is down) I miss my places ...

Let's agree to not badmouth one place over the other, all have good points, and "birds of one flock gather together" meaning having something in common to chat about.

I like the visual aspects of Fragrantica, one can easily import glorious photos into the text or in case of a YouTube auditory link, the whole visual picture shows and not only a url line like here on Parfumo. I suppose that Parfumo purposely does not dwell on visualness and concentrates on professionalism, what with the competent features that are available regarding perfumes themselves.

This Forum here is not as lively as the German twin site, no matter how hard the newcomers try to make it so. I suppose the older members have simply written themselves out and there is no more material.

Wow, is this an issue because they are an AD site? Would this ever be an issue for this site?
9 years ago 1
It may not be an issue here because the members have good taste and would not post anything offensive.

Their perfumes come with photos of the advertising campaigns and those can be racy (do you remember the old Opium ad with Sophie Dahl?)
They do like to censor things over there, don't they? First it was "Parfumo," then it was "old lady perfume" and now they've banned racy advertisements and asked the membership to report any violations. Wow.
Why do they expect members to report racy content when they are putting all those photos on their website themselves?
They like to keep the tattletales and Goody Two Shoes people occupied. Wink What's so ludicrous is that those ads have appeared in fashion magazines and even on billboards. It's not as if they came out of some magazine that's sold in a brown paper wrapper.
So stupid. I am no longer on the site otherwise I would spy on those tattlers and laugh at their tactics. It's sickening how they immediately do what the mod says!

P.S. I thought I could not read the forums unless I was a member but I was wrong. At this point, the members are criticizing google and comparing it to Turkey and Iran. How disgusting. As though everyone in the whole world is supposed to have the same values.

I'm not sure what Google has to do with any of this. A search for "Tom Ford Neroli Portofino" lands me not in Fragrantica's forum but squarely on the perfume page, which features the ads which I assume are being censored in the forum. They need to fix that stat. Think of the children. Rolling Eyes

I just saw the bald between the legs shot. Not a fan.
Nor am I. But of the two, I dislike censorship more.

There are multiple strange things going on on that site.

I was thinking the same thing. If you google the BPAl scents with the pornographic labels you get taken to the BPAL site with photographs of those bottles before fragrantica. Is google holding fragrantica to different standards because it is a forum / discussion site and not a business? I am assuming because this site is not ad based, and instead paid for by donation that pressure from google would be less an issue.

It is not so much Google ads. They are so powerful because they have the most popular search engine by far. Nobody wants to be put at the end of the list of their search results.

But, this story does not really make sense to me. I have never heard before that Google tries to have a direct impact on the content of websites. You can google any porn you want with their search engine. They are certainly no guardians of public morals.

Hard porn is also not allowed at Parfumo, and we delete such content if we see it here. But perfume ads? - No. Parfumo is rather liberal. There may be good reasons to find one or the other perfume ad offensive or racy. In this case - wouldn't it be worth a good discussion?

Something else must be going on. Perhaps it is as you said: Fragrantica wants to be at the top of the search list (and they currently are) when it comes to perfume reviews so they have to abide by Google policies. I am just assuming that Google requires family-friendly content to be at the top of searches. But still, it does not make sense all the way. Like you said, there are all kinds of images on google images that are not appropriate for everyone.

As far as perfume images and ads, I would like to see more on this site because I love perfume bottles and photos of them. I don't mean in the sense of advertising to the users but more of an artistic inspiration (members here have wonderful self-taken photos).

Yes, Parfumo could be more visual. "A picture speaks louder than a thousand words."

This was suggested before and it would add to the appeal of the Parfumo website as a congregation spot.

If the URL of a musical video is imported, fine and good, like "what are you listening to now" but unless I have boundless time, I will not bother. However, if the image of the musical video were showing, I would click onto it, if it generates visual interest.

That is a question of setting up the software.

Fragrantica is very visual. And in every quoted reply the previous visual "whatever" is repeated.

Parfumo wants to be concise.

It is a difference of attitude, but now I digress.

I don't like endless quoting and scrolling. I would prefer people not quote, which is only possible here because it is not so busy.

Seems like a double standard that the ad photos are permissible on the perfume page but banned in the forum. This comes up as the second Google search result for me after Sephora, btw.

I don't have so many questions so the activity here doesn't bother me
I'm mostly here for the function to list your perfumes in a "collection" and the good reviews, and when you ask something you get serious answers - the opposite on Fragrantica
I plan on register again on Fragrantica, not for the perfume discussions, I will se if I can stir up some drama...
Twisted Evil

See Bold - some (now here) already do that, have been doing it, continue to do this. Some take it so far as to create several accounts with elaborate identities for the sole reason of drama.

Wasted energy.

It is a double standard. It is my opinion that asking members to not post perfume ads with nudity, or report pictures and perfume ads with nudity, either has to do with money, or member complaints, and they are blaming Google guidelines. There have been several new articles using perfume ads with nudity since Zoka's thread.

It is good to see there is no such nonsense here at parfumo.

Wasted energy.

Left the place after being unjustily accused, insulted and humiliated for whistleblowing of shilling and astroturfing.

Sorry to hear of your problems over there. Hopefully you are happier over here.

Thank you for your kind words, Briarthorn. Just caught 2 more new accounts with faked identities popping up and posting there their "reviews", one even attempting at using broken English as part of her "background setting". The accounts and the "personalities" all belong to the one and same person who is playing some kind of "My own Kingdom of phantasy subjects in my head" on Facebook, a wannabe-writer practising her writing skills and playing out her imagination at heart's content on Fragrantica, with Fragrantica's quiet or explicit consent, enriching that website on a daily basis with multiple long, fabricated, largely misleading reviews by at least 11 different personae.

I suppose the official version of this whole farce is, that this prominent member whom Fragrantica in the past had awarded thrice for her reviews (for each 3 different personae) has "tugged" all her "friends" from Facebook to Fragrantica to start reviewing. I just hope we won't have that "clan" coming over here and start telling phantastical stories as well.
