Can Summer Heat Damage My Perfume Collection?

Can Summer Heat Damage My Perfume Collection? 0

Hey everyone,

I have a serious perfume collection of nearly 120 original, authentic, and invoiced bottles. I store them inside a closed, dark wardrobe away from direct sunlight. However, during the summer months, my room temperature often reaches up to 34°C (93°F) during the day.

I'm genuinely worried about whether this heat might harm my perfumes in the long run.

Here are my concerns:

Will the scent composition change or degrade over time?

Can high heat destroy top notes?

Even if they’re stored in the dark, is that temperature still too much?

This collection means a lot to me both emotionally and financially. If there’s anything I can do to better preserve them—I'd truly appreciate your suggestions.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or has expertise on the topic?

Thanks so much in advance 🙏

I'm not an expert but I believe light and humidity affect fragrances more than heat, but heat does play a part. One way of keeping them cool would be to get a mini-fridge that has temperature controls, I used to have one I bought from Amazon to store natural oils since I wanted to keep them in the garage where there was no A/C. I'd suggest keeping it around 50-60F (10-15C) as temps that are too cold also affect fragrances (can cause certain materials to solidify, etc)
