I wouldn't know much about indie brands, but the most peculiar one I tried because I didnt expect it was 
Toy Boy , is REALLY heavy on rose, something thats unusual for male targeted scents in the occident.
Another one would be 
Colors de Benetton Man Black , the first time I smelled it it made me recoil. Its oud for 14 dollars
Tea Rose Eau de Toilette + is very good if you love rose.
Stash Eau de Parfum Elixir great woody fragrance
Youth-Dew Eau de Parfum not for the faint of heart. huge spice-bomb. the bath oil is more subtle
Dolce & Gabbana (1992) Eau de Toilette dirty then clean aldyhedic floral. would recommend ones made in italy or france. the current ones are made in italy again
Minotaure Eau de Toilette orange blossom, slightly spicy, creamy floral that is fairly unisex
Mémoire d'une Odeur mid priced. chamomile and jasmine blend. very calming and definitely unusual
