Perfume Storage Shelf/Case etc

Perfume Storage Shelf/Case etc 2

Hello all,

New here!

My fragrance collection is starting to grow and I currently just have them all in my closet stashed away. However, the bottles are a part of the fun with collecting for me and I would love recommendations for a shelf/case that is cat friendly (I have 3 cats) that allows the bottles to be displayed.

Cheers!

You could do a hanging display cabinet, i personally love vintage ones with the curved glass and all detailed, and maybe you could thing to add a hinge or a kind of locking system if your cats are true burglars Smile

If your collection is big enough and have the space, you could think about a full cabinet, they are easier to find and can be in more styles

I think the glass might help a small bit with the sun exposure but personally i haven't had  any problems so far with fragrances changing, since i go though them quickly.

Do you have a room without windows or a windowless walk-in closet there where you live? You could have a normal cabinet in a room like that without worries of the perfumes being exposed to sunlight. Alternatively good quality blackout curtains in the front of the perfume room windows would be a fine solution. I have heard of UV protected glass cabinets too, however I think that might be very expensive and also if the sun shines inside the cabinet, that can cause a greenhouse effect and make the temperature inside the cabinet too high for fragrances so it should have heat & humidity protection too. But of course if you use up your fragrances quickly and have only a small collection, this won't be an issue. Another alternative for a bigger collection would be rotating fragrances: you take your rotation selection of the week/month/season out on a beautiful tray to be on display and keep other bottles in the cool and dark. That way the light exposure won't be constant for all bottles.

Do not feed the demon, closet is the best place. I know you won't listen but the expositors are tools of the devil, you will find yourself buying 3 more Frederic Malle to fill that compartment. I know, you know, everyone knows. Resist!

Hello!

I have the IKEA Hemnes display cabinet. Take a look, you can easily fit about 120 bottles in the exposed section of the doors with plenty of room to spare. Then you have several drawers to store special fragrances that are vintage or too valuable to be exposed to light. The little drawer is perfect for samples.

My cat jumps on everything, and gets into everything. A cabinet with doors, secured to the wall, seems like my idea of a cat-resistant storage solution!

I like IKEA's Hemnes series as well, but IKEA has a less-expensive offering I'm keepin my eyes on:

I can appreciate the desire to display fragrances in a nice cabinet, but I agree with those who say resist the urge. Keeping your collection stashed away in a closet is a good policy. As Lempi says, sunlight, extremes of temperature, and humidity can all have a detrimental impact on fragrances.

My storage routine is as follows:

1. Each season I set out the fragrances I am most likely to wear for the next three months and place them on my bedside set of draws. There are usually 6-8 bottles there at any one time, so that they are in easy reach in the morning. They are not in direct sunlight and as they do not stay there for a long period I am not concerned about the small amount of light they are exposed to. Temperature in the room is moderate and fairly consistent. I do not have cats, but I do have a rather large and boisterous dog who would knock the bottles over if ever allowed to get close to them.

2. Bottles that are unlikely to be used in a season go into one of the bedside draws and remain there until the appropriate time. Then they are pulled out and swapped for those on display. Inside the draw there is no light exposure and, again, temperature and humidity levels are moderate.

3. Lastly, I keep all the bottles that I'm no longer keen on (or have never really liked) in the back of a cupboard in my study. They never see the light of day!

I just had enough of this southern california heatwave last week, and vowed to remove my tiny collection out of the bathroom vanity.

The solution below is in the coolest room in the house, with an ocean breeze coming through the window, moderating any intense heat.

I ended up settling on this combo, from IKEA:

- KALLAX Shelving unit with underframe:  https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kallax-shelving-unit-with-underframe-white-white-s49614347/

- KALLAX Insert with 2 drawers:  https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kallax-insert-with-2-drawers-white-70286645/

- KALLAX Insert with glass door:  https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kallax-insert-with-glass-door-white-70340299/

- STRIMSÄV LED spotlight, white:  https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/strimsaev-led-spotlight-white-80570567/#content
