Books: what are you reading right now?
by Dalmajen | Off Topic
...I have just bought Keeper of the lost causes..on my Kindle. So when I have finished my book that I am reading, will start this one. It sounds really good, and will let you know what I think of it! The second one in this series, doesn't get as many good reviews, and it's too expensive at the moment anyway).

Samples from Houses - best experience
by Dalmajen | Perfumes & Brands
...I just went on their website, and want to order the samples, but it is very difficult to get around there! When I clicked on the samples, no shopping bag, and so on...also, can't find any shipping info! Will try again, but pretty frustrating. I went back, and tried it again, and have ordered the sample set! I paid the same for the bloody postage, as for the set..but want to try these! Hope I love some of them!

Which perfume will be your next buy ?
by Dalmajen | Perfumes & Brands
...I'm waiting to see where I can get a FB of Tauer No.12 Eau d'Epices. If, and when, it finally becomes available in the U.K..I will then order it, and hopefully have a friend bring it over to me. He has already started stocking bottles in the U.S...but that is impossible for me to order, and receive. God I hate these bloody postal restrictions!

by Dalmajen | Off Topic
...Hello all you wonderful book lovers! Now, I have just made a note of this Keeper of the lost causes...will look this up! I am extremely embarrassed to say what I am reading at the moment. But my daughter in law gave it to me (in Croatian, but understand and read Croatian)...anyway,,50 shades of grey...BORING shite...And, how many times does this girl blush! (and bite her lip)...what a lot of drivel...excuse me if I upset anyone, but we are here to give our reading opinions! :) What did you think? (if you have read it, of course).

Which is your favorite way of eating ?
by Dalmajen | Off Topic
...I eat my main meal of the day, at lunch time. And a very light whatever for evening meal. When I am working, this also applies, as work in a hotel, so can still follow this regime. When at home, I have a very light breakfast, cooked lunch, and very light supper. When working..the same, but a bit more fruit at breakfast. I can't work properly, or think, unless I have good food. I don't eat junk food...well...maybe pizza (which I make) once a month. I am not as thin as I used to be...(age thing), and would like to lose perhaps 3 or 4 kilo's...which I could probably do, if I cut out my wine in the evenings. I always have a wine with my light supper. No other alcohol, just wine). I try very hard to limit sweets as well. But I am a bit of a cheat, and can't resist chocolates etc.

"What is it you are wearing ?"
by Dalmajen | Parfumo Community
...I don't mind answering the question..."What is that you are wearing"?...but, I just usually give a very quick, and to the point answer..like for example: I'm wearing Chanel Coromandel. So, I just answer Chanel. They usually nod, and that's the end. Unless..they are Really interested in what the fragrance is called fully, then I will elaborate. I have been asked on several occasions, whilst wearing an Andy Tauer (because they really stand out, and are Different!) what the name of the perfume is..I just say..Andy Tauer. I get a lot of blank looks, but that's fine with me!

...Greysolon:Dalmajen:This is for Shalimar Ode a la Vanille (Madagascar)..just like I said in my review....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9muzyOd4Lh8I don't know Shalimar Ode a la Vanille at all, but listening to Nights In White Satin makes me imagine in a synesthetic way it is a very rich vanilla. Yes, it certainly is a lovely rich vanilla...and it was so strange that this song came to [email protected] your choices! The stripper was such a wonderful choice) What a good match! 8)

What makes a scent smell "expensive" ?
by Dalmajen | Perfumes & Brands
...This is actually a very difficult question to answer, as as I look at it, it is up to the wearer, and how it comes across. For example...just because a perfume may cost a lot, it doesn't mean it's classy. Some people can wear Chanel no.5..and they smell rich, classy, and divine. But on me...it smells like a cheap dime store concoction! All lemon and bitterness). I always thought it was floral notes that defined a scent as expensive...but that is, once again up to the individual who wears it. Some florals can smell terribly cheap, and nasty). So, price is not a factor..per se. So, I would answer this question this way. When a person finds a fragrance that utterly captivates them, and they love it dearly, and everyone around them praises the said scent....this would be, in my opinion, what makes that fragrance smell expensive.

Parfumo/Fragrantica
by Dalmajen | Parfumo Community
...Sherapop:Greysolon:This gets to the heart of the reason why I left Basenotes.... It's a fragrance frat house. Perfectly put, Greysolon!Bravo! Yes, I agree with this completely! I was always afraid to post something on basenotes, as there is a lot of sarcasm, and snobbery there. I still go and read posts, if it is something that interests me, but don't participate anymore. I also felt that you weren't part of the "club" or Frat, as you put it), if you didn't have hundreds of niche perfumes. Not everyone can afford niche fragrances, and others just don't have access to many of these fragrances. I love reading about them, and sometimes get samples, but I know my limits, and what is affordable to me. I really never felt comfortable on Basenotes, and I was even nervous to write a review. It does seem to be a very closed, and clicky group.

New U.K. Postal rules.
by Dalmajen | Parfumo Community
...Thanks for that, @Dolby. So, this means they don't ask you what is in the parcel? Or, do you still have to fill out one of those green declaration forms? It seems funny to me, why feelunique (for example) doesn't use this option, as they are not shipping perfumes any longer, just cosmetics. It doesn't really matter how slow it is, if someone wants the perfume bad enough, they will have to be patient!

Article: Preference for Perfume Correlates w/Genotype
by Dalmajen | Perfumes & Brands
...Hayven:As far as impact on future fragrances, perhaps there will be perfumers who tailor or market fragrances to evoke certain memories like weddings, parties, etc. There are 2 perfumes kind of like this already. United Scents of America - New Jersey can evoke memories of being at a carnival or fair. Also based on some of the reviews I have read, Kerosene - Unknown Pleasures takes the wearer/sniffer back to a time of ice cream cones and eating sweet things as a child. Yes, I have read about these fragrances also. But, I think it's just another gimmick. I, myself, don't want to smell like a fairground, or cotton candy, or ice cream cones etc....but, maybe certain people do! It is, however, a wonderful thing that we all perceive smells differently. Some love the smell of burnt rubber in perfumes, some love patchouli, others don't etc. It would be sad if we all loved the same things. As far as been able to smell oneself...I don't really know if I could pick out my own smell in a line up! Maybe because I have never thought of it before.

...I think we will have to see, just how bad it's going to affect all the online businesses, and ebay sellers etc. Once the penny drops, as just how much things will be affected, then there may be an adjustment of some kind. I have no idea what kind of adjustment, but I do feel there will be a lot of complaints from all sectors, so...maybe there may be a change of some sort? (here's me, trying to be optimistic!
