Weekly Scent Discussion #8: Those notes that you rock.
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...Flavorite: I'm surprised that you wear perfumes with a note of something you're allergic to eating. I've become allergic to kiwi fruit & now I'm afraid to wear anything with a kiwi note, thinking I'll feel sick if I smell it because of the association. Hmmm, maybe I should rethink that - kiwi sure smells nice...I find it hard to say what works on my skin. For instance, I despise more than the tiniest smidge of jasmine, tuberose, neroli, and orange blossom. But I'd love to have someone who likes the smell of them come smell them on me. Maybe they smell great on me? If they did, though, it wouldn't cause me to start wearing them because I hate them so. On the other hand, sometimes I smell these white florals on someone else and like them. What I'd really like to do is get a couple hundred of us together and conduct a bunch of experiments like that! Do you think we can get some perfume company to underwrite it? Maybe in some beautiful place that we could hang out for a week?

Simple trades

...I think that doing printouts of the perfumes is a great idea, Pipette! As to the niche stuff, though, I'd be pretty sure that you would get more money by selling it on eBay, where the parfumistas are likely to see it. (I've had good experiences selling my unneeded perfume on eBay, as well as buying there.)You are so lucky to live in Flushing! It's the main place I stay when I visit family in NY - a wonderful place for walking, and eating a variety of ethnic food, and the hotels are more reasonable than Manhattan!

A Mislead Friendly Gesture?
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...I have bought a lot of things on eBay and sold a few as well. I've gotten some great deals, but I don't buy perfumes that are new and popular like this unless I've had previous interactions with the seller. It sounds like your friend just didn't know some of these tips for avoiding scams. Of course, you can report it - but it's nicer not to have to deal with it in the first place. Sad. :(

Suggestions: fragrances with berries for men?
by PBullFriend | Perfume Recommendations
...I've never smelled this on a man, but I bet it would smell great. The black cherry with the glycyrrhiza (natural licorice) is kind of smoky/rooty but with a nice dark fruity note: http://www.parfumo.com/Perfumes/Jesus_Del_Pozo/In_BlackThe nose who did it, Christine Nagel, certainly has experience with men's scents (she did A*Men Pure Coffee, B*Men, and Memoire d'Homme).

Replacment for Trussardi inside Inside - Trussardi
by PBullFriend | Perfume Recommendations
...Amberamani: I love Trussardi Inside, and it's all about coffee and roses to me. Another scent that prominently features coffee and roses is L'or de Torrente. It's also discontinued, I think. (Sometimes it seems like all the good scents are!) But it was in a similar price range to Trussardi Inside, and maybe you will find it somewhere.I would have suggested Cavalli Her, also. Is it possible that, by spraying it on your clothes or by putting moisturizer on your skin before wearing it, you can make it last longer?Good luck!

Correlations between perfume and shoes
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...I absolutely don't understand the obsession many women have with shoes or handbags. On the other hand, knowing that those obsessions exist makes me feel better about myself - perfume tends to be cheaper than either one!

Which fragrance would Mr. President wear?
by PBullFriend | Parfumo Community
...I think of Pres Obama as someone who is creative and interesting, but has to avoid being distracted at this time in his life. I think he'd be wearing Creed's Green Irish Tweed now, but he'd probably have some interesting, well-chosen bottles after he stops being President and can spend more time enjoying life. He could also wear Laura Tonatto's Albi - manly but gorgeous, and the lavender can help him keep his famously even temper.

Which fragrance would Mr. President wear?
by PBullFriend | Parfumo Community
...Keppy: You started the topic, so: What scent would President Jonathan wear? I don't know very much about him, except that he has a lot of crises to deal with right now. If he asked me what to wear, I'd suggest something calming. Because the harmatan winds do go through Abuja, maybe the minty tea of Parfumerie Generale Harmatan Noir? What do you think?

If you could have only one ..
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...That would be sooo difficult. I guess that, of the ones I love, Hermes Hiris is the most versatile. So I'd have to go with that. It's hard to imagine that, many years ago, I would wear just one scent for months or years on end. :roll:What about you, esoada?

Good-smelling cheapies are hard to find
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...Berdoues, when it's around, is often extremely cheap at the discounters. I got a big bottle of this great stuff for $15 US, I think.Same is true of the Gandini scents - and Sherapop is a big fan.Estee Lauder has done a great job of keeping some of its well-loved ones around for decades with little or no reformulation, and quite inexpensively. My guess is that, if you put a bit of Cinnabar or Aliage under the nose of some blindfolded niche-only folks, they'd quite like them! Some of the Yves Rochers are amazingly cheap and very good. Neonatura Cocoon is a lovely cocoa/patchouli that was a bargain for those who liked such scents as Lutens' Borneo. It can also be hard to find genuine orange scents anywhere, but their limited edition Fruits de Noel Orange et Amande was one. It now is demanding exorbitant prices on eBay.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by PBullFriend | Parfumo Community
...I LOVE the "Bank of England" thing. I mean, it's so silly, but it would entice me to try to compose sentences where it made sense (e.g. "You won't be able to buy this perfume unless you have as much money as the Bank of England.").I hereby propose that, rather than "Fragrantica," we use the word "banana." "Banana" has proven a useful substitute for many words over time, and it rarely fails to make people smile. For some examples, see this NY Times article: http://www.nytimes.com/1993/05/09/magazine/on-language-what-s-so-funny-about-bananas.html

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by PBullFriend | Parfumo Community
...You're not the most current now! Ha! I just feel like, perfume-wise, I'm spread kind of thin. I can't believe how many perfume groups there are on Facebook - a person could easily while away her day on those. It's a different feeling, given that FB peeps know each others' names and particulars. Then again, it seems to help people keep themselves civilized. So, I come to Parfumo (and occasionally Fragrantica) for reviews and FB groups for chitchat.

Comme des Garçons topic, also re. Pharrell
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...I love their incense series, as a lot of people do. (I have a bottle of Incense:Kyoto.) A lot of their woods are beautiful to my nose, but I feel like I'm not quite the right person to wear them (not avant-garde, not a man). I like their Wonderwood a lot. Their Leaves series is really interesting & features some notes that hardly anyone else does (shiso, calamus). It seems like there are a lot of companies looking to be offbeat but really doing the same old boring thing. To me, even when I don't like a CdG scent all that much, it seems well-made and interesting. (Except the Energy C series, which is the only boring thing I think they've done. But three out of more than 100 is pretty amazing!)

Comme des Garçons topic, also re. Pharrell
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...It's not my idea of a beautiful bottle, but I think Pharrell is a cool and interesting person, and I find something to enjoy about almost all CdG perfumes. So I was happy to see them working together! What has your experience been with CdG, Sleuth?
