Mystery Guerlain: please help identify
...Sleuth:Conclusion:The mystery scent was indeed: "L'Heure Bleue" by Guerlain (EDP)But it seems on my skin it smells more like a flowers + amber mix and it didn't impress me as much as the paper strip. Thanks for all you help!Yes, I can see how beguiling the paper strip must have been. But the mysteries must go on, Sleuth, find another!

Recommendations: refined, citric or woody or aromatic scent
...Scarletting:Can't say I agree with Encre Noir - it's a fine enough scent, but not subtle or safe for meetings IMHO.Kenzo Power would be my #1 suggestion. It's smooth, refined wood and spices (don't let the floral note listed scare you off, it's quite masculine). Calm but high saturation - it has an aura but it doesn't beat people over the head. It's also left-field enough that I think it'd be pretty rare to bump into someone else wearing it.Yes, you're right, Scarletting. I have a husband with perfume eating skin, so he's not a good body of comparison (literally haha)

...Taking a punt, try Terre D'Hermes. It has a high composition of a soft cedar type male fragrance material that is extremely popular. Or Encre Noir by Lalique.

Summery jasmines?
...I have ordered Le Jasmin by Annick Goutal. I seem to like unusual Jasmines, such as Eclat de Jasmin from the Prive range (not at current day prices) Do you like indolic Jasmine?

...Wait a minute Omni :) So LT en TS say L'Heure Bleue is dead. But what is more interesting to me is why you dislike the middle of the fragrance, can you elaborate a bit...

Something with a sweet resinous raspberry
...Here's a cheapie raspberry beret, Floralisme by Gres is all that. It's a well crafted number from a highly reputable perfume house, not to my taste, but I did wear it several times and the dry down is very refined, based on their Cabotine which has been in circulation for yonks.

Hawthorn
...The hedges retain their feral coloured leaves throughout winter, a favourite of English landscape gardeners, they have a bleak fascination. Only Apres L'Ondee springs to mind as carrying the essence of Hawthorn. Others? Let's explore

...Sleuth:No I appreciate your comment. Why is the effort not worth it, you don't like the middle?Yes, that's it, the middle is fusty on me and I'm old enough to remember when some perfumes were great. I tested my (modern) bottle of L'Heure Bleu with your search in mind, Sleuth, and came to the conclusion that I agreed with LT and TShttp://www.nstperfume.com/2011/11/10/the-little-book-of-perfumes-q-a-with-luca-turin-tania-sanchez-part-2/But, I still wear Mitsouko, (see Bois de Jasmin's reviews of vintage and modern)All is not lost. I'm watching to see you find your muse. :)

Your favorite classic Eau de Cologne?
...I associate eau de cologne with mornings. I am interested to hear how others see it.I often use Apres L'Ondee in the modern EDT as a morning fragrance, it has that dewy feel, even if it doesn't scream hesperidic

...I guess I'm a bit of a killjoy when it comes to L'Heure Bleu. Try as I may I cannot make it work for me during its active phase. I have to confess that many a time I have thought that the afterglow of L'Heure Bleu is incredibly sexy as a faded glory but not worth the effort of getting there.
