Looking for a new perfume
by PerfumeBore | Perfume Recommendations
...Hm, are you sure Cloud by Ariana Grande does not have a good longevity? My friend uses it, she applies it in the morning, and I can still catch the whiffs of it in the evening. She herself does not smell it from herself in the evening though! You haven't mentioned your budget, but Delina Exclusif, Oud Satin Mood extrait are very long lasting. Zoologist Bee (if you like the smell of honey) is very long lasting as well. All these I tested, and I can smell them on myself for more than 12 hours.

How do you recognise the smell of musk?
...Depends on which musk. There are "white musks" - they are widely used in laundry detergents, and they give that fresh, soapy, laundry kind of smell. "Green Tea" by Elizabeth Arden has that kind of musk. "Clean Reserve" also have lots of this in their perfumes. "English Rose" by Yardley has that type of musks. There are also musks that imitate the animal musk (I think at this point natural animal musk is not used in mass production perfumery anymore), and that one smells kinda like cat litter box, or men's public washroom. This is the type of musk you can smell in Narciso Rodriguez musky perfumes ("For Her" etc). I have to say though, that on some people and/or in certain weather these types of musks smell some kind of nice, but I wouldn't know what is that like exactly because it's all sharp urine on my skin in any weather. Sometimes it can also smell like foul body odor, like a homeless person. Glossier "You" is very rich in musk - it's pretty much musk only, and that one smells like a homeless person on my skin.

How did you hear about Parfumo?
by PerfumeBore | Parfumo Community
...DonVanVlietAt Parfumo, we're all about keeping our focus on fragrances, aiming to maintain a "politics-free oasis."Some might see this approach as censorship, but I'd rather call it moderation. Political topics are everywhere online... Parfumo aims to be a place where discussions are all about our shared love for perfumes, steering clear of divisive political debates.Yes, I have been enjoying Parfumo a lot so far!

How did you hear about Parfumo?

...Mixal"Fragrantica has become something of a political shit-stirring pot" - care to elaborate? There has been quite a lot of controversy and drama in the comments for perfumes and articles, and the administrators allowed that to happen and fester, and often even contributed to both the pot-stirring articles and the arguments in the comments. If you want specific examples - google around, you'll find plenty. For me personally, the final straw was the pro-Putinist stuff. (Or even just quite recently, they replaced their "Free to choose" motto with something about Assange - why is that necessary or appropriate on a perfumery website?)I mean, people are free to believe whatever, but the Fragrantica owners are very forceful and aggressive in trying to convert people to their views and sticking said views into every hole of that poor perfume website. I'm not sure it even borders on trolling - it is just pure unrefined trolling as it is. I don’t like that, and I don’t like a community like that. I come to perfumery websites for information on perfumes, not for somebody's political agendas (especially agendas that support the war in Ukraine) or to watch shit hitting the fan, thank you very much.To sum up, I'm not sure if the owners need to get a therapist or are on a payroll or both, and I don't even care - I just don't use their resource anymore because it lacks moderation (in every sense of this word).

Help with new Amouage packaging
by PerfumeBore | Perfumes & Brands
...I got Amouage Epic in the new packaging and the new bottle (with the sans serif font) - it smelled exactly the same as my sample from an older tester (magnetic cap, but serif font). In my blind testing, I couldn't distinguish between the two.

How did you hear about Parfumo?
by PerfumeBore | Parfumo Community
...I think the first time from a youtuber, who is an immigrant living in Germany. I noticed she used it more than Fragrantica, so I checked it out - the international part seemed rather quiet. However, I started using it more only recently, switching over from Fragrantica. I find the listed notes and accords (especially accords) and all other information about a perfume to be more accurate here. With Fragrantica, it reached a point where I would double-check the notes on the manufacturer's website almost all the time. Also, in recent few years Fragrantica has become something of a political shit-stirring pot, so I moved here. The functionality of this website is also better. Have been really enjoying using it so far.

Politically incorrect fragrance notes?
by PerfumeBore | Perfume Discussions
...I don't like the term "ambery". It's a trash can of a word, everything goes in there. People use that word for perfumes with amber accord _and_ for perfumes with ambergris. But ambergris is very different from amber, it's animalic. Not to mention a slew of synthetic ambers and amberwoods also lumped into this word, and they have their own distinct character. There is no good option for oriental perfumes, really. It's not just about the amber accord - it's about the amber accord and vanilla and spices and florals, all mixed together in an opulent and sweet way. You cannot call them "Middle Eastern" because the modern term implies a modern perfume (those with oud and saffron, probably), but oriental perfumes are a historical genre. "Resinous" is not a good description either, because it's not just about resins.I am somewhat confused about mentions of Barack Obama, the USA, and the American Asians. The perfumery term was coined well before these issues. I just finished reading a perfume book by Eugene Rimmel (the one who founded the Rimmel brand), written in the second half of 19th century. From the way this term is used in the book, I can gather that the original meaning was either Ottoman Empire specifically, or the Middle Eastern region in general. China, Japan etc. were called "The Far East" in the book. That was the meaning of the term "Oriental" when the perfumery term was coined. It has nothing to do with the USA or its population, I'm afraid.Of course, we can ban the perfumery term, rename the Agatha Christie's novel, and change the rules of chess (otherwise it's obviously very racist) while we're at it. However, I think if people want to fight for the right of Asian Americans or any other minorities in any country, it might be worth considering working with the MPs in the respective parliaments, organizing initiative groups, writing petitions, voting on elections etc. I suspect these actions might do more good for the minorities than arguing on the Internet about perfumery terms or banning words.
