... Ah yes, the cruiseship dancer. Honestly, with all the hate and political insanity going on there, this old piece of fragrantica lore seems almost wholesome and very funny 😄

... For all second hand sites in general, I would just be cautious: Does the seller seem like they're just trying to get rid of some backup bottles, or do they have a suspicious amount of brand new fragrances? Do they only sell designer bestsellers and very popular niche houses, or do they also have a flopped flanker from 2018 no one cares about anymore, some cheapies or more obscure brands? If it looks too professional, if they sell exactly the same perfumes you'll find in dupe shops or fake market stalls, that's a red flag. And of course you can always ask for more photos and compare them to the photos on here or to those of known fakes. Original bottles filled with water or cheap fragrances are only really a concern with refillable bottles, it's not easy to refill a regular bottle. With Chanel, I wouldn't risk it. That's one of the most faked brands out there. If you really want to save money and aren't in a hurry, set a price alert on idealo. Chanel is often excluded from sales, but it's not completely impossible to find a deal.

... Lidijabern DogiCoco Lidijabern DogiCoco I'm currently trying to decide between "Bianco Latte | Giardini di Toscana" and "Eclaire / اكلاير | Lattafa / لطافة" and it isn't easy Can you please share how you percieve them, what are the differences? 🤭 I will write detailled reviews about both soon, but I need another trial before I say anything 😄 They are really very close to my nose, when I test them I get so confused at times 🫣 Looking forward to read it! 350 years later I finally did it and wrote reviews for "Eclaire / اكلاير | Lattafa / لطافة" , "Bianco Latte | Giardini di Toscana" and also "La Nuit Blanche | LPDO" (another dupe of those). Sorry, that wasn't soon at all 🫣 I also bought Eclaire now 💘

... I think everyone who used their site had this at some point. It's nothing personal, just the message you get when you open too many tabs at once. Not as funny as they think it is, but honestly one of the lesser offenses of those weirdos 😆

Fragrance Rotations 2024

Perfume Discussions
... Just seeing this thread now! I love seing the changing seasons on your photos, @Lempi. I don't really do a rotation at the moment, I had monthly trays in the past though. But I sorted my fragrances by season and vibe in my top picks , so I can look there if I'm unsure what I want to wear.

... No, I just keep them in a dark cabinet. I like to have them easily accessible, and keeping the boxes separately would take up too much space. So far, I never missed them.

Paris Hilton by Paris Hilton or Jessica Simpson Fancy?

Perfume Discussions
... EvitaVilla I am too old for trying those perfumes (no offense, it's just a fact), but based on what I read about them, I would choose Paris for Spring/Summer and Jessica for Fall/Winter. No one is too old to try any perfume. They don't have age limits. I'm sure there are people your age who love both of these, even if you're 80 😄 I prefer Fancy because I'm a gourmand lover. It's such a cute caramel scent and the fruity notes make it a little less heavy. But I have to admit that it's been at least 15 years since I smelled the Paris Hilton fragrance, I think it's not sold where I live anymore.

... "Chiffon Sorbet | Escada", the re-issue in the new bottle. Saw the 30 ml at TKMaxx for 18 € and bought it blind. If you miss the older Escada summer edition DNA, give it a try! I wore it a lot on my holidays in September. "Manakara | Indult" 😍 It has been on my wishlist for a while.

Lattafa perfumes - hit or miss for you?

Perfumes & Brands
... I really like them in general! They're definitely more to my liking than the average western drugstore cheapies. Most of them aren't 100% exact dupes in my experience, many are more loosely inspired. One of my favorites is "Yara (Eau de Parfum) | Lattafa / لطافة" , which doesn't really smell like anything else. And I actually prefer "Nebras | Lattafa / لطافة" over "Eilish (Eau de Parfum) | Billie Eilish", they're close, but not exactly the same. Like every house, they have some duds, too, for example "Yara Moi | Lattafa / لطافة" didn't impress me at all. "Khamrah / خمرة | Lattafa / لطافة" is nice, but in this case I like the expensive version "Angels' Share | Kilian" better. I think it's always a good idea to test both if something is a dupe or closely related, especially if you're not on a strict budget and could afford either. Just be honest to yourself and listen to your nose. I'm currently trying to decide between "Bianco Latte | Giardini di Toscana" and "Eclaire / اكلاير | Lattafa / لطافة" and it isn't easy 🤯 Btw, most expensive niche houses use lots of synthetics, too. There is nothing wrong with them, without synthetics we would have very limited options in perfumerey. Both natural and synthetic ingredients can be of varying quality, and no perfume house, cheap or expensive, will officially disclose that they used lower quality ingredients, so it's more of a guessing game. Sure, a 5 € fragrance will not contain expensive ingredients, but some 250€ fragrances might not have them either. Composition also plays a big part in the overall quality of a fragrance. And what we perceive as overly/unpleasantly synthetic smelling differs from person to person. For me personally the base of "Erba Pura | XerJoff" is much more nose-burningly synthetic than most Axe body sprays 🫣

The main notes which are missing from the note listing
DogiCoco
|
Perfumes & Brands
... Even if something is created in a lab, it can be listed as a note. For example fruity notes (except citrus) are usually lab-made, because you can't extract oils from fruit. Notes are NOT ingredients, they are just descriptions. Listing the name of an aromachemical (for example ambroxan) in the notes is just another marketing decision, brands don't have to do that and usually don't. Aldehydes were among the first synthetic, lab-made notes, so of course they got mentioned in the notes of perfumes like Chanel No 5. They were something completely new that revolitionized perfumery. Even nowadays, people still think of that kind of scent when they hear they word "aldehydes", because it was so influential. But there are a lot of different aldehydes that don't smell like "aldehydes the perfume note"! Some smell like strawberry or whatever, so it would be contraproductive to list them as aldehydes. I think aldehydes aren't listed in many scents today because the typical "aldehyde note" scent is not very fashionable currently, so even if something really smells aldehydic, brands might call the note different or decide not to mention it in minimalist note lists in favor of other notes.

The main notes which are missing from the note listing
DogiCoco
|
Perfumes & Brands
... Brands sometimes change the notes lists without significantly changing the fragrance. It's pretty annoying when you can still clearly smell the old notes, but they suddenly decided they want to be minimalists and only list 3 key notes. Parfumo tries to be up to date and list the current notes from the official sources (brand website etc). Always keep in mind that note lists are not really ingredients, but just descriptions the brand uses to market their fragrances. If you want to see if there has been a different notes list on Parfumo at one point, you can go to the research section from the perfume's page and look through the changes.

... Some explanations and a different perspective on your points: Degoya Adding a perfume to a wishlist is somewhat hidden on a perfume page. Not only that but the whole action buttons sector, such as collection, review and so on are strangely placed. It’s all over the place and not coherent in my opinion. There are two options to add a perfume to your wishlist: 1. Perfume page -> collections -> wishlist 2. Your page -> collections -> wishlist -> add There’s no submit button when rating a fragrance, but for reviewing there is. Same with "smell similar" which is in another sector altogether. The first time I used both features, I didn’t know if my changes were saved or not. I don’t know why my "similar smell" suggestions are even hidden under another button in the first place. I think its pretty neat that things get saved automatically and you don't have to manually submit everything. Even reviews get saved as a draft automatically. It makes sense that they get a submit button, I mean how could it work without one? That way, there would be lots of unfinished reviews. Agree that the extra page for your own "smells similar" suggestion is a bit unneccessary. It would also be cool if we could add more than one. The „See Prices“ button could be realized a bit more intuitive on perfume pages. Like you would expect from Google and other sites, that show you the listings on the same page. I don’t know how I can subscribe to certain Perfumes in the souk and add them to my watchlist. Adding individual listings to my watchlist is possible, however, you first need to open „view my souk“ and then click on "watchlist", which is not intuitive. When I write someone a message in the souk listing, I can’t see the actual product I was inquiring about when I click on my mailbox later on. You can subscribe to souk offerings of a perfume here: Perfume page -> subscribe -> offers I agree that this is not very intuitive, it should be placed under "souk". The rest of this is because Parfumo is meant to be mainly a community and isn't supposed to feel like a sales site. The souk is supposed to be a small extra. In my user profile, I can see my collection, which is also available as a separate page when you click on it. You can’t infer that from just having your user profile open. Same with top picks, which you can only access when you click on your user icon in the upper right corner of the screen. I don’t know why it lists the links to the collection, my ratings and so on in the first place when you have already a link to your user page. They are already sub-sectors of your profile anyway. It’s strange to list them there and makes things just bloated. I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. Listing all your collections and ratings directly on the start page of your profile would look extremely cluttered?! Maybe I misunderstand something. Or are you against having several ways to go to the same pages? As far as I know, this is normal and wanted in web design, isn't it? Notes, blog and assistant are also strange features in my option and add unnecessary complexity. For example, I don’t know how I can see the blog of another user. It doesn’t show up on their profile pages. So what's the point of having them anyway? You can see a user's blog on their profile. It's between the statements and the photos. If there's nothing, they haven't written any articles yet. The point of blogs is obvious: To have a place to share detailled opinions about perfume-related topics that go beyond reviews of single fragrances. Even though I have not written a blog post (yet?), I think it's a really great feature that makes Parfumo stand out. It's a low-key way to publish quality content without having your own site that you have to promote. Notes are only for yourself, like a statement or review, but private. I don't use it, I use my notes app for that, but it never bothered me. The assistant is another really good and useful feature, especially for those with bigger collections. You can see which fragrance you wore when (like a diary) and also find out which ones you wore the most often. And you can get inspiration on what to wear when you're unsure. If all the special features would be removed for the sake of having an easier UI, Parfumo would turn soulless and boring in my opinion. There is room for improvement in terms of the placement of some features, but it's good to have them all. And hey, it still looks sleek and modern and doesn't have that crowded 1998 geocities vibe like a certain other page :D

... I think it's pretty good all in all. Some features could be a little more intuitively placed, but I'd rather take a minute to learn how it works than have another awful dumbed-down site that spams you with sponsored content, unnecessary videos and AI generated bullshit. The internet nowadays is so boring, simple and overly fast-paced sometimes. At least Parfumo still feels real and not like an influencer hellscape. Sorry, I'm not usually the backwards type, but I miss the old web 😭 Things that could be improved: - Reviews should be above statements, like it was until recently - We should be able to switch off the translated reviews, the auto translation is awful and makes the German reviewers sound crazy

... I don't have it, but I ordered some samples directly from Kyse a few years ago. They came in little pots, which was a bit unpractical, and I refilled them into sprayers. Unfortunately I just looked at their site and saw that they don't ship internationally anymore, what a bummer. If I still had my sample I would send it to you, but I think I don't 😩

... Seconding "Pêche au Yuzu | Kyse Perfumes / Perfumes by Terri"! The yuzu is noticeable, too, but this is really a fresh, non-sweetened peach. I really like "Bitter Peach (Eau de Parfum) | Tom Ford", but I don't think it's what you're looking for. To me, it smells like peach ice tea with "Angel (Eau de Parfum) | Mugler"-esque patchouli. Definitely a sweet and warm scent.

How do you decide to buy a full bottle?
DogiCoco
|
Perfume Discussions
... I mostly get samples/decants on here or from other sites. It's more of a hobby to me, I don't have the exception that every sample I have will be full bottle worthy. I also sample in store, sometimes I even do that to decide if I need a sample or not. Luckily I live in a big city with lots of perfume stores and the salespeople mostly leave you alone. Of course I also try every free sample I get. Testing perfumes and writing about them is so much fun! Blind buys have become a rare occasion for me. I often wonder why people buy relatively common 200€ niche perfumes blindly and then act like the other reviewers were lying just because it didn't meet their expectations. If you buy blindly, you have to embrace the thrill of it! I usually only buy cheaper fragrances blindly, and only if they can't be found in stores here and no one is offering samples. It can be fun, too, but it's not my favorite method. I don't sample perfumes of my friends and family on the regular, they mostly have perfumes I already know and most of them don't have huge collections.
