... Ninamariah Omnipotato Stardust23 Ninamariah I'm a woman but I want to answer. I love Amouage, I'm totally crazy about them and I love and have many from men's collection (and I'm sure that you know already that there are many perfumes in women's collection that are absolutely unisex). Anyway I'm not going to tell you my favourites on me but ON MY HUSBAND'S SKIN and he's started secretly visiting my bottles because he smells irresistible when wearing them. These ones are so amazingly sexy on men: "Overture Man | Amouage" "Gold Man | Amouage" "Opus XV - King Blue | Amouage" "Jubilation 40 | Amouage" "Opus XIV - Royal Tobacco | Amouage" "Interlude Black Iris | Amouage" "Myths Man | Amouage" and all of you who are in hot climates I highly recommend to try "Honour Woman (Eau de Parfum) | Amouage" or "Honour 43 | Amouage" because that leathery base in them bushes through on mens' skin and it's amazingly attractive. If I have to say one that I definitely don't like on him is "Reflection Man | Amouage" and "Reflection 45 | Amouage" . @Ninamariah , what are you liking about "Overture Man | Amouage" ? Im still new in relative terms to this journey and I wear this occasionally. With each wear Im discovering something that I can’t quite describe that’s appealing so although I would rate the scent very low at this moment , I have this feeling that I will one day very much enjoy it. "Overture Man | Amouage" is my favorite fragrance of all time. It's just got everything. Booziness, spiciness, smokiness, resinous sweetness, woodiness, even grapefruit-ginger freshness in the opening. Complex yet all the parts work together seamlessly. Nothing overwhelms, and the resultant scent is just heavenly. Utterly unique, hasn't even been cloned successfully. But that's what I like about it. Specificity is polarizing. What might work on me, or smell good to me, might not to you. Lots of people complain about an overwhelming cumin/body odor smell, or a strong animalic component in the drydown. I get neither. @Omnipotato I have exactly the same feelings about Overture Man. I definitely don’t get any animalics nor overwhelming cumin, not even on my husband’s skin where all Amouages tend to perform a way stronger than on my skin. Who knows, maybe it’s the Scent Split 5ml sprayer? I think Civet recently commented on this. I get body odor from it that smells like someone who hasn’t washed in a week. Maybe two. Not armpits, more like unwashed nether region. However…if I put on one spray, and don’t smell up close, I can kind of at least envision what people who like this scent are smelling. I haven’t thrown it away. There’s something there.

... A lot, but some food for thought…bringing up a recent full bottle 100ml purchase I made at $425 that equals $4.25 per ml. Getting it at a discounter is clearly better. If I get a standard $30 5ml sample, Im paying even more at $6 per ml. But there are higher priced samples than that…Ive paid $79.99 for example for a 5ml before that’s like $16 per ml. And, new record for me, today, 1ml sample….for $69.99. Sampling is the way to go obviously but I have a LOT of 5ml samples. I’m starting to move to 2ml samples and those cost more per ml (but less in price obviously).

Brands that you just don't get

... I use to not get Amouage at all, I hated everything I tried there. Then something changed in my nose, and a few years later it’s probably my favorite house. For me, it’s hard to definitively say, this house is a no for me because of my Amouage experience. Like, literally, I was baffled that anyone would wear their stuff at one point. But, to be fair to the OP I will give a shot at the answer… Memo Paris (although "Cappadocia | Memo Paris" is okay). Louis Vuitton. All of there stuff just seems unfinished to me, and one sided. Roja Parfums. "Elysium pour Homme (Eau de Parfum) | Roja Parfums" is certainly okay but others (like "Diaghilev (Parfum) | Roja Parfums" ) I don’t get. However this may just be a profile preference. Nicolai Perfumer. I think "New York Intense | Nicolaï / Parfums de Nicolaï" is just too stuffy. It, and "Itruk | Bois 1920" and "Diaghilev (Parfum) | Roja Parfums" all have a stuffiness that I can’t get past.

... I would say "Memoir Man | Amouage" because I can’t find it at discounters. I keep going to the Amouage or Saks sites and putting it in my cart but stopping myself and agreeing to wait for discounters.

What is your stance on clones?
Stardust23
|
Perfume Discussions
... I don't really like clones. I thought I would? At one point I had "Club de Nuit Milestone (Eau de Parfum) | Armaf" and I had "Club de Nuit Sillage (Eau de Parfum) | Armaf" as well as the originals (I was kind of breaking into clones) and although they were fine, they weren't the OG. I tried others from Alexandria, and I think they make good stuff, but in the end, if I know the OG, I'm going to like it more (at least so far that's been the case). One exception is "Jack | Alexandria Fragrances" it's actually not exactly the same as it's duping lol, but it is pretty good. I won't replace it if I even ever finish it, but I can give it pretty good marks (It's a clone of "Original Vetiver | Creed" which I also have). I think the only thing I get upset with is the passive aggressive push by people that seem to want to rain on parades, and demean people that buy the OG. Like, someone gets "Silver Mountain Water | Creed" then you see someone like, "OMG, you could have gotten "Club de Nuit Sillage (Eau de Parfum) | Armaf" for a tenth of the price!" or something. It's like, well, if I wanted that, I would have chose that. I didn't. I would certainly never demean people that buy clones, but I think the reverse should hold true.

... Okay, updating from about seven months ago where: Then: 1) "L'Homme | Prada" 2) "Amber pour Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Prada" 3) "Reflection Man | Amouage" 4) "Morning Chess (Eau de Parfum) | Vilhelm Parfumerie" 5) "Luna Rossa Carbon | Prada" Has changed to Now: 1) "Opus XIV - Royal Tobacco | Amouage" 2) "Jubilation 40 | Amouage" 3) "Pegasus | Parfums de Marly" 4) "Memoir Man | Amouage" 5) "Carved Oud (Extrait de Parfum) | Thameen" Not that I don't like the earlier five, I very much do, but the list has changed. I wish I could do a top 30 lol.

What fragrance do you all wear to work?
Stardust23
|
Perfumes & Brands
... I wear nearly all of my collection and samples to work except for ones that I can’t see committing to a full bottle for. For example, even after several samplings of "Overture Man | Amouage" I can’t commit to a full bottle because although it has substance…it actually stinks like someone’s unwashed crotch to me. Not trying to smell like that anywhere, including work.

Reviews - is it too much to ask to wear the scent properly?
Stardust23

Parfumo Community
... I'm very late to the party here (going to be agreeing indirectly with the OP)...fragrance is one of the slowest things your brain learns to judge. Olfaction is tied to memory and emotion, not language or logic. The first few times you smell something your brain is still filing it away building synaptic connections between odor molecules and the limbic system. People that are convinced they know right away are being fooled by novelty bias (when it's initially good) or a mismatch between expectation and reality (bad or good). Olfactory receptors fatigue in minutes, reform after exposure, and vary in sensitivity day to day. Even blood sugar, hormones, or humidity can change your perception of the same scent. Neurologically speaking it takes multiple exposures across different contexts before your brain has a stable pattern to compare against. In other words, if someone thinks they know immediately if they like a fragrance, their neurons are still drawing the map, and they're mistaking first impressions for expertise. I will tell on myself even in the face of above, I reviewed Amouage Timber approximately two wears after I got it. My review wasn't favorable, but logic got the best of me, and I removed my review simply because we do not know that soon. With that said, this isn't a call to change your routine....you do you, if you know instantly, nothing wrong with that, it's just the science is pretty clear: your olfactory system takes multiple exposures to actually build a reliable map.

Your Perfume Hot Takes
Stardust23

Perfume Discussions
... 50scent123 My hot take is: the hobby isn't getting stale, you're just tired of the hobby itself. It's not industry's fault you went through 200 fragrances within a year. Ha, I like this take just because it’s more positive than it may come across. There is just outstanding shit out there made by absolute masters of the craft, and there may be more masters of the craft than ever.
