... Ah okay, got it, I can see why some would appreciate a light scent. I would've frowned if someone thought "let's spray some Interlude Man and hit the bunks"

... Honest question: What is the definition of a bedtime scent ? A fragrance to spray before going to sleep (if so I am interested to know why one would do that) ? Or bedtime as in...sexy time in bed? Douse the sheets, the pillows and the wallpaper of the room with "Emporio Armani - Stronger with You Intensely | Giorgio Armani" .

What fragrance do you all wear to work?
Aquarius1
|
Perfumes & Brands
... I wear whatever is in my collection to work, but do take the amount of sprays into account depending on the sillage of a fragrance. I won't bathe myself in "Oajan | Parfums de Marly" or "Red Tobacco | Mancera", to name a few. Getting a whiff of it is fine but choking everyone out is a no-no, whether it is in a professional setting or leisure. In general, I don't follow the whole "wear "L'Homme | Prada" or "Grey Vetiver (Eau de Parfum) | Tom Ford" , they are perfect office scents". Wear whatever you want, but be mindful of not being the person that always reeks of Cologne. As for fragrances I wore this week, I've been wearing "Althaïr | Parfums de Marly" and "Myslf | Yves Saint Laurent". No specific occasion for these, I just felt like wearing them.

Which languages do you speak?

... Dutch: Native speaking Frisian: Native speaking English: Fluent speaking German: Able to read, understand and can speak it, but will have a hard time conversing with someone with a heavy dialect (or mumbling) French: Can read, understand (but don't blurt out full stories, I will fall back on " répétez s'il vous plaît ") and speak it, but not native Spanish: Can read it, or at least decipher texts. I skipped some Spanish classes and try to regain my knowledge with some Duolingo assistance. I know how to order a beer, ask for directions to the beach and point at a girl and say she drinks water. (La niña bebe agua). Oh, and some Spanish curse words.

Bleu de Chanel L'Exclusif

... Zero hype for me, none at all. Besides it being a flanker of one of the few mens fragrance lines they have (after all this time) instead of creating a new one, the information on this L'Exclusif doesn't breed any interest to me. I voted "No way".

Milestone perfumes
Aquarius1
|
Perfumes & Brands
... I'm not a huge fan of fragrances from the far, far past either (Which for me includes any fragrance pre 1990). If I think of milestones I think of fragrances that cause other brands to jump in ASAP because another fragrance dared to do something different or soared in popularity in the mass market. Such perfumes would be: - "Acqua di Giò pour Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Giorgio Armani" / "Cool Water (Eau de Toilette) | Davidoff" : The aquatic perfumes - "Spicebomb | Viktor & Rolf" : Spicy fragrances - "Fierce (Cologne) | Abercrombie & Fitch" / "Bleu de Chanel (Eau de Toilette) | Chanel" : The blue scents - "1 Million (Eau de Toilette) | Rabanne" / "Eros (Eau de Toilette) | Versace" / "Le Mâle (Eau de Toilette) | Jean Paul Gaultier" The sweet club scents - "Sauvage (Eau de Toilette) | Dior" / "Invictus (Eau de Toilette) | Rabanne" / "Boss Bottled (Eau de Toilette) | Hugo Boss" Swiss army knives for year-round usage - "Dior Homme Original (2011) (Eau de Toilette) | Dior" / "Dior Homme Intense (2011) | Dior" : The lipstick (or powdery) fragrances Also the ones that are prone to be cloned by others because their scent profiles are so hyped for clear reasons: -"Angels' Share (Eau de Parfum) | Kilian" - "Aventus | Creed" - "Baccarat Rouge 540 (Eau de Parfum) | Maison Francis Kurkdjian" - "Erba Pura | Xerjoff" These also set trends for future fragrances to follow up on (or did in the past TO DEATH and still, such as Aventus because the original was already reached and appreciated by a wide audience) I could also include "A*Men / Angel Men | Mugler" for the gourmands. Thank god they created better gourmand after that monstrosity.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
Aquarius1
|
Parfumo Community
... The only reason I switched is the stupid balloon system. Unpopular takeaways on a fragrance are being downvoted to the point that it is being removed, leaving mostly overly positive opinions on niche fragrances and negative opinions on designer fragrances standing. (Also, the "news", specificially by AI Bot Eddie Bulliqi and supersnob Miguel Matos are a huge turn-off for me) But...if I would give credit where it is due, which I do not fully defect fragrantica for, is based on the fact they even have news. I see blogs on Parfumo for selected fragrances, but not for any noteworthy articles. If I want to be up-to-date for any new fragrances, I tend to go to Fragrantica first as, in my opinion, Parfumo based on searchable fragrances or news is always late to the party. Just to give an example: There is a fragrance from Dolce & Gabbana (Albeit heavily debated for obvious reasons) for quite some time, Fefe, not even registered in Parfumo's library.

Perfumes & Brands
... Before I was into collecting fragrances my go-to fragrances used to be "The One for Men (Eau de Parfum) | Dolce & Gabbana", "Le Mâle (Eau de Toilette) | Jean Paul Gaultier" and "1 Million (Eau de Toilette) | Rabanne". They smelled good to me at the time and wasn't that much into other stuff. People liked them, I loved them and they did their job. As I grew into the fragrance game I did not longer care for these as the world opened up more. I still have "The One for Men (Eau de Parfum) | Dolce & Gabbana" in my collection but I tend not reach for it as much as I did before. (It also does not help that it's longevity is piss poor) One I'd highlight for myself is "L'Homme Idéal (Eau de Parfum) | Guerlain" which I absolutely adored when I first bought it, smelled very unique to me and I thought I'd love it for all time, but present day: it just does not do it for me anymore. When I smell it now I think it is an okay fragrance, but I wouldn't rebuy it, not even on a high discount. I may have spoiled myself a bit, I think I would've kept loving it if I didn't put my nose on new things. Which may also end up going from "Amazing" to "meh, why did I buy it".

Your best blindbuys
Aquarius1

Perfume Discussions
... I don't usually blindbuy fragrances but as a lover of minty fragrances and after hearing positive opinions on "Enclave | Amouage" I bought it without trying a decant or sample. For me it was a bullseye, it met my expectations and I loved it ever since. The other blindbuy was "Tonka Cola | Mancera" mostly due to my intrigue of the cola note and I did not regret blindbuying it. I get the (cherry) coca cola note and the smell, longevity and sillage are firing on all cilinders for me, great stuff.

What is your stance on clones?
Aquarius1
|
Perfume Discussions
... In the past couple of years, clones (and inspirations) seem to have taken a lift cloning some of the most popular fragrances for a fraction of the price. In the past, brands such as Dua and Alexandria took inspiration from best sellers and offered their interpretation for a more budget-friendly price. Depending on where you live of course, shipping either of the two to your home country could still heft you a rather high price. Enter Middle Eastern cloning brands: Lataffa, Maison Alhambra and more recently brands such as Paris Corner, French Avenue etc. Down to the bottles, nearly every known popular fragrance was cloned and offered for a mere fraction of the price and made accessible to the masses. Some of these are a near 1:1 of the one they're inspired by. Or revive interpretations of fragrances brands discontinued in the past. One could argue this is blatant copycat behaviour leeching on the success of the perfume it is inspired by. On the other hand, are the originals not immensely overpriced and could one settle with a more budget-friendly clone? What is your opinion on clones, do you feel these have a place in current day fragrance community or is a trend you'd rather see end soon?

What are your top 3 most complimented fragrances of all time
Aquarius1
|
Perfume Recommendations
... My most complimented fragrances are actually the ones that, based on the ratings here, are the ones the community does not appreciate. I've got a few of the Profumo top 10 in my collection such as "Imagination | Louis Vuitton", and "Layton | Parfums de Marly" and "Dior Homme Intense (2011) | Dior" but in terms of compliments the ones that net me the most are: - "K (Eau de Parfum) | Dolce & Gabbana" - "Invictus (Eau de Toilette) | Rabanne" - "Spicebomb Night Vision (Eau de Parfum) | Viktor & Rolf" They're not really the most popular fragrances within the community but, for me, I get more compliments for these than some "top rated" stuff.

... - "A*Men / Angel Men | Mugler" - "A*Men Pure Malt | Mugler" - "Joop! Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Joop!" - "Alien Man | Mugler" - "Tobacco Vanille (Eau de Parfum) | Tom Ford" - "Althaïr | Parfums de Marly" There is a bit of a mugler theme in my disliked perfumes, but after trying "A*Men Ultra Zest | Mugler" I was rather optimistic in trying other scents from the brand. I feel they are an aquired taste and one that does not vibe with me. To me, they're some of the absolute worst scents I have ever smelled. Kudos if you can pull them off, but I can't stand them. Especially Pure Malt. Joop Homme isn't that bad to me, but it should come with a hazard warning. It penetrates the nostrils and kills flies in a kilometer radius, it is super intrusive. It was one of the first fragrances in my collection and the feedback from others was not mild to say the least. Let's just say their dislike feeded my dislike of it over time to the point I stopped wearing it. Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is not thaaaat bad, but it smells like a million vanilla candles I've smelled before. Sure, smells good, but walking around a lit vanilla candle gives the same effect. Lastly, I grew dislike to Althaïr mostly due to the glowing reviews and my love for vanilla, so I just had to try it. Blindbuy worthy, so to say. but it was a massive letdown for me. Super powdery on me and I would have expected it to totally be something in my wheelhouse but it did not vibe with me at all.

Light Blue Intense Pour Homme getting discountinued?
Aquarius1
|
Perfumes & Brands
... Bmart09 I haven’t heard officially but have heard rumors that because Prada purchased Versace that people are curious if they will keep production on the major/popular Versace fragrances or if they will discontinue them and completely recreate with their vision and plans for the brand. I went ahead and purchased a back up bottle of the original light blue, the intense, man, dylan blue, and original pour homme just in case How does Prada purchasing Versace exactly relate to Dolce Gabbana discontinuing Light Blue Intense, if true?

Perfume Discussions
... Honestly I think you already have a pretty balanced collection for all seasons that smell pleasant. But I had a similar scenario before I began my fragrance journey, consisting of mostly designer fragrances. I wanted to have something that did not stray too far from pleasant for myself and those around me, along with being versatile enough for more than special occasions. I landed on Layton, as entry level Niche perfume and I loved it ever since. Got some great compliments on it too. That is also the one I voted for in your poll as my recommendation. I would advise sampling before buying though if you hadn't done so already before listing these specific picks. What others love might end up becoming something you might regret buying. Nishane fragrances might also be in your ballpark if you can get them ( Ani, Hacivat specifically). Still sample though.
