New Year's 2025 Perfume Resolutions

Perfume Discussions
... I' d like to say I'll stop blind buying, I'll set a budget, blah blah. Who am I kidding? I won't. So my resolution is to keep indulging in my love for scents safely, sanely and consensually. Get more 9ml samples (my favorite size) rather than random full bottles and read about perfume. I went on google scholar and found a few very interesting book titles I want to explore. I ll make a list and get to it. Happy new year to us all. I will be welcoming the new year here in the US of A with class and style: Amouage Gold Woman and combat boots.

Which notes do you avoid?

... Leather is a challenging one for me but I don't mind it's smoother, sweeter version, suede. I can't stand frangipani. It's overpowering, headache inducing and overall very unpleasant to me. Also not a fan of aquatic notes. And finally modern, niche perfumery notes such as iodine, blood, gunpowder and the likes.

How to Macerate Perfume Properly?
ThetaRole
|
Perfume Discussions
... Interesting. I had an inkling that this whole idea about letting Middle Eastern cheapies "macerate" for a few weeks is bull****. I always suspected it's a marketing ploy to compensate for lower quality aroma chemicals, aggressively promoted by modern day telemarketers.&n bsp;I own a few Lattafas and they smell exactly the same even after a year. Indeed, the only thing that macerates is confirmation bias, as @SteelerOpera very accurately pointed out.

... Great! I will probably order Bijan. It's cheap and some of the notes that make Chloe unique seem to be there, at least on paper. Unfortunately no aldehydes in bijan, wah, wah, waaah.

... Chloe. Karl Lagerfeld. I ordered a vintage miniature and now I want more! Does anybody know of a new perfume that smells close? It's a very unique fragrance, warm spicy florals douched in aldehydes. I actually smelled it recently in the wild. I couldn't identify the wearer but I could certainly identify this beautiful, distinct scent. Thank you and thank you.

Seeking Fragrances Replicating Realistic Male Body Odors

Perfume Recommendations
... Filippo Sorcinelli has a dedicated line called sex with 4 fragrances designed to replicate body odors. I haven't personally sampled any of them but a friend of mine owns Cyber Sex from the line and he claims it's quite realistic, bordering on unwearable.

... I can relate to that. Smell is a very complex sense and experience. It can become an addiction, not only in the consumeristic sense. It isn't simply shopping addiction. It engages almost all parts of our brain and it activates all shorts of different chemicals. The experience can give a high similar to drugs. We are drug addicts more so than shopping addicts. If you are they type to get hooked on smells you want to experience more, different, more complex scents. I have no advice on how to keep this at check other than self awareness and self regulation. I constantly reflect on my shopping behavior when it comes to perfumes. I know something is wrong when the feeling of excitement of trying a new scent is accompanied with guilt and the "promise" to myself that this will be the last bottle for a few months. If the experience of shopping for a perfume is not 100% guilt free I don't indulge. It took a bit of practice but I've managed to keep my collection small, sweet and spicy.

... Hello! I' ve been lurking here for a while but today I decided to join. My name is Marianna and I am a Greek who moved to NYC with my cat Lucy, my 10 favorite perfumes and almost nothing else, 3 years ago. I have a very sensitive, albeit untrained nose, and I am now learning about the science of fragrance, aroma chemicals, notes, accords and all things perfume by sampling, smelling and reading as much as I can. NYC is an interesting although not very well blended mix of various aromas.... According to my collection I am an oakmoss girl which doesn't surprise me as I lean towards floral, spicy, classic chypre fragrances. Lately I discovered my love for vanilla, hazelnut, praline and nutty goodness.
