Perfumes You've Decluttered

... Because I buy perfumes semi-regularly, there's obviously a chance I will declutter it early on after purchasing or after some time due to not really wearing it as much as others. "Jungle Fantasy | Britney Spears" - I decluttered this days after purchasing it because I initially liked it in store, but it did not suit my skin at all in the end. It smells too light and watery, in my opinion. My sister, however, was more than happy to take it off my hands. "Fantasy Sheer | Britney Spears" - Yet another Britney perfume that I liked initially in store but did not work well on me at all in the end. I found the scent itself quite unappealing as time went on, too. "Fantasy (Eau de Parfum) | Britney Spears" - Luckily it was travel size, but I swear, the Britney Spears line of perfumes just do not like me whatsoever. I have pretty much given up on them at this point. "Mod Blush (Eau de Parfum) | Ariana Grande" - I got this as a miniature to try out and sadly, it is another one that does not suit me whatsoever, so my youngest sister took it off my hands. It's alright, it just does not suit me at all. "Sweet Tooth Me Espresso (Eau de Parfum) | Sabrina Carpenter" - I liked the body mist for this scent, but the perfume is a whole other kettle of fish. I really don't like that opening coffee note because on me, it's strong. It makes me gag, though the dry down is pretty nice. "Cosmic Kylie Jenner (Eau de Parfum) | Kylie Cosmetics" - I actually really like this scent. It's beautiful, easy to wear and works for a lot of people, however I was not reaching for it as much as I was reaching for other perfumes, so I decluttered it to my sister who wears it daily. She has almost finished it, in fact. "Deep Night | Ghost" - I used to love this perfume but for some reason it no longer sits well on my skin, so I decluttered a near-new bottle to my youngest sister as she really likes the scent, too. I have definitely decluttered many a tester versions to my sister as well ( "Fleur Majesty Rose Royale | 31 | Kayali" is one of them, which is just horrible, in my opinion) and a few dupes as well. I'm just glad I have family to give them to!

... I recently bought a KAYALI discovery layering set as well as some samples from a dupe company I like. I have also just acquired "Launa Hoapili (Eau de Cologne) / ラウナホアピリ | Ohana Mahaalo" from my younger sister as she is not into tea fragrances whatsoever and I am.

how much has your tastes changed?

... I only became a fan of fragrances around 2020-2021, when the pandemic hit, however my tastes have changed drastically since the first time I started wearing perfume (around 15-16) to now. Now, I had always liked different scents, but not necessarily perfume scents; I loved incense or laundry detergent that smelled nice, nice shampoo scents, body sprays and all that, but I was never big on perfume. I initially never liked most women's perfumes because my family always bought me very floral, powdery scents that did not suit me and felt cloying. Then a friend purchased me a woodsy perfume that I absolutely fell in love with. I also purchased a cheap perfume in a cute bottle at a market, which was probably a dupe for Black Opium or something, and that was one of my favourites for a while, too. Then I discovered gourmands and it kind of changed everything for me, and I started be a bit more open to smelling and testing various perfumes in shops. I am still not the biggest fan of powdery scents, but I love florals now and there are even some powdery scents that I like, but they have to be subtle and not too strong in how powdery they are. Of course out tolerance and likes and dislikes in scents will change regardless, because that is human nature. Much like we won't always enjoy the same notes in every perfume; I love vanilla and jasmine, however there are many vanillas that do not work for me as a perfume because of how powdery they are, and sometimes the jasmine in a perfume cannot save the scent itself thanks to the other notes it has been paired with.

Celeb fragrances: what are your favs and why?

One of my absolute favourite perfumes in my collection is "Ari (Eau de Parfum) | Ariana Grande"; it was suggested to me one time while I was shopping and after smelling it for the first time, I couldn't get it out of my mind. I was honestly surprised by how much I liked it. It's an amazing everyday scent in my opinion, and I love how fruity yet soapy it is on my skin. The scent itself makes me feel so happy and energised, hence why it is one of my favourites. I also really love "Sweet Tooth (Eau de Parfum) | Sabrina Carpenter", which I went through pretty quickly after purchasing my first bottle. This was actually my first celebrity fragrance purchase and I just fell in love with the bottle and scent profile upon first spritz. It's a lovely scent, perfect for the colder months and it quickly became a bedtime fragrance during the winter. It may not have that much lasting power compared to other scents, but it's still absolutely delicious and comforting for me as a wearer. "Cosmic Kylie Jenner (Eau de Parfum) | Kylie Cosmetics" was a celebrity perfume that really surprised me, similar to Ari. I don't have it in my collection right now, but it's a really good night scent that clings and wraps around you in the best possible way. I actually tend to suggest this particular fragrance to people if they ask for my suggestions, as it's pretty versatile for most people who wear perfume. I sadly cannot say the same about its flanker, 2.0.

The most you’ll spend on smelly water

... My limit is around £100 because I am by no means rich, however I have a hard time justifying that kind of price unless I really, really love the perfume. Considering the fact my favourite perfume is "La Belle | Jean Paul Gaultier" which sits at £95 for 50ml (it's £65 for a 30ml is insane and criminal) I know I would pay that price, but only on my birthday.

How much do opinions of influencers mean to you?

... I will often watch influencers more so to understand their feelings on a fragrance, the longevity of the scent and if it's got good projection and such. I love reviews for things in general, be it for perfume or films, so I just enjoy other people's views on them. In essence, I'm a little nosey and just want to see how others have reacted to something I liked / disliked, or something I want to try in the future. It's the same with reading reviews on here; I want to know what others think and to see if we have similar or differing views, or to see how the fragrance smells to them versus how it smells to me. I think there is only one influencer who I actually would trust, but that's because her taste in perfume is incredibly similar to mine. Otherwise, when I go for a perfume it's because I like the notes or have enjoyed the scent when testing in-store. I am also aware that when it comes to influencers I can't necessarily trust that a scent they adore will also work for me because of differing skin chemistry, how well their skin holds a scent versus how well my skin holds a scent, and also how they react to a scent upon first sniff versus how I might react. All in all, I just like to know what they think and how a scent works (or does not work) for them. I value their opinion at the end of the day, but it's not their overall opinion that makes me go and buy a scent at the end of the day; it just makes me understand from their perspective why it does or does not work for them.

What Does Christmas Smell Like to You

... It's certainly "Choco Musk / شوكو مسك (Eau de Parfum) | Al Rehab". It reminds me of hot chocolate and warmth. I also love to wear "Sweet Tooth (Eau de Parfum) | Sabrina Carpenter" during the cold winter evenings, it's like a warm, cosy blanket before I go to sleep. I also consider "Ari (Eau de Parfum) | Ariana Grande" a Christmas fragrance because that's when I originally purchased it last year and it was all I wanted to wear during the day.

What's your LEAST favorite thing about the perfume community

... One of the things I have come to dislike in general is how some folks view dupes or consider them bad for the fragrance community. Dupes—especially the cheaper alternatives—are typically there for the consumers that cannot afford the original price point of the designer fragrance or get the original for whatever reason. I have also come to find that there's some folks who will snub specific fragrances because of which celebrity made them, which I find quite baffling.

... I've reached for an old favourite, "English Honeysuckle | Yardley", which I typically pair with a drugstore dupe for La Vie Est Belle. I'm reminded of spring and sunny days, I love it 🥰 (Dupe scent is Artiscents Atelier from Superdrug in Patchouli Passion. I can't say if it is an exact dupe or not for La Vie Est Belle as I have never owned or tested the original fragrance)

What fragrance do you all wear to work?

I have the fortune of working in a drugstore that sells perfume, so I usually choose on the day, but I typically gravitate towards my usual favourites which include "Pure XS for Her | Rabanne", "Ari (Eau de Parfum) | Ariana Grande", "Sweet Tooth (Eau de Parfum) | Sabrina Carpenter" or "To Be (Woman) | Police". If I am at my other job, however, I typically go for "La Belle | Jean Paul Gaultier" or "Pure XS for Her | Rabanne".

... I really love wearing "Sweet Tooth (Eau de Parfum) | Sabrina Carpenter" or "Ari (Eau de Parfum) | Ariana Grande" to bed, or anything vanilla based that isn't too heavy. I have definitely used some dupes for "Cheirosa '62 / Brazilian Crush Cheirosa '62 | Sol de Janeiro" as a bedtime scent before. It feels comforting to be wrapped in a pleasant scent while snuggling into bed.

... "Pure XS for Her | Rabanne" is probably my most worn and one of my most repurchased. The scent is just so cosy and perfect for the evening. I have also worn "Choco Musk / شوكو مسك (Eau de Parfum) | Al Rehab" a lot l, especially in the winter. I have probably ran through about 3-4 bottles of it.

... Interestingly enough, no one in my family was ever that interested in fragrance while I was growing up, which is surprising because of how big my family is. My father used to wear "Old Spice (After Shave) | Shulton" and I used to love seeing the bottle on the living room shelf where he kept it. My brothers wore aftershave or body spray mostly, usually by Lynx. One of my sisters likes collecting perfume bottles but does not necessarily wear perfume a lot, though her favourites are "Alien (Eau de Parfum) | Mugler" and "Killer Queen | Katy Perry" and usually leans towards more fresh or woody florals compared to me. From what I know, none of my aunts and uncles were into fragrance, either. My youngest sister is a big perfume lover however. There's a decade between us, so a lot of the perfumes she gets are from me but we have very similar tastes. She's a gourmand lover but her favourites are "Cosmic Kylie Jenner (Eau de Parfum) | Kylie Cosmetics", "Yara Tous / يارا (Eau de Parfum) | Lattafa" and "Fantasy (Eau de Parfum) | Britney Spears" at the moment. She also really likes a dupe for "Cheirosa '71 | Sol de Janeiro" that I gave her. If there's something I initially like but don't wear a lot, she usually gets it and uses it up. She's a teenager, so smelling good is pretty important to her right now, especially when she's at school.
