A simply lovely balance
A refined and balanced amber. Heavy on the vanilla but the balsamic note balances everything nicely. Silage is moderate and the longevity is about 4-6 hours of good performance and then another 4-6 hours of it just sitting on the skin. The best way I can describe this is vanilla ice cream with balsamic vinegar. It's sweet, but not as sweet as other fragrances in this DNA which I enjoy. On the dry down the incense comes through, and provides a subtle smoky depth.

Amber vanillas are everywhere and this one manages to carves out its own, unique, path-- largely thanks to the beautiful balsamic note.

A lovely, modernized Ambre Sultan
I’m a middle-aged male professional and don’t have anything approaching an expert nose, so read on with those provisos . . .

I got a couple of testers of Maître Parfumeur et Gantier Ambre Tibet from ZGO (fantastic shop) in San Francisco, and I love it, particularly because Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan is in my top-three cold-weather scents, and Ambre Tibet vibes to me like an updated, modernized take on SLAS, with eucalyptus and floral notes, and a nice sweetness; it’s also noticeably less dry than SLAS.

In the wearing, AT doesn’t project as much as SLAS, nor last as long, but longevity is still good, and the closer sillage extends the number of contexts AT works in. Can easily wear this in cool to cold weather; probably wouldn’t wear this in a close business context, but would in pretty much any other life context.

I am on the fence about copping a full bottle; need a few more days with Ambre Tibet to decide if it scratches enough of a differentiated itch for me that I would regularly grab it over SLAS.

Vanilla-forward amber
The chewier cousin of Maître Parfumeur et Gantier - Ambre Précieux. It's deep, very dense, rich, opulent, sweet, very vanillic: in fact, when I wore it a friend who isn't interested at all in fragrances could guess I was wearing a vanilla perfume. As another commenter on Fragrantica said, it's a balance between warm and cool notes. I can detect some kind of mintiness, which I suppose it's due to the davana and eucalyptus notes, but it mellows down the more it warms up on my skin. It's very potent, so beware of overspraying.

Solid sweet amber
Ambre Tibet is a solid sweet amber fragrance. It's very vanilla forward on my skin, and I primarily get labdanum (cistus) and vanilla with a non-descript woody base and phenomenal diffusive sillage, which makes sense given the ambergris (or possibly ambroxan) in the notes. The labdanum and vanilla sit right in the middle of powdery and resinous without leaning too much in either direction.

On my husband, it's just a touch warmer and dirtier (musk/patchouli?) but otherwise quite similar. He said it reminded him of the smell of his grandfather's (not busy) woodworking shop in the basement. Warm, cozy, and vaguely woody.

Neither of us got any of the floral or aromatic notes, or the incense. Sillage was incredibly impressive for about 6 hours and then slowly fades closer and closer to skin.

Sprayed on from brand sample from Scent Club Mystery Kit #1. Worn on skin about 9hrs at time of writing.
