Pearl of the Orient
Today I finally wanted to find out: Are the original "Knize Ten" and the "Golden Edition" one and the same fragrance, just differently packaged? Or does the gold edition actually have its own golden heart? So I sniffed both side by side.
And the answer is: "Knize Ten Golden Edition" stands out from the original more than I ever imagined. It already has much of the character of an Eau de Parfum - even if a traditional brand like Knize may have refrained from this renaming for brand strategy reasons. The difference is roughly like having "Dior Homme" in its lighter version or in the concentrated form. The leathery-herbaceous notes of the original blend much more strongly with a lovely Damask rose scent, but also with a slightly caramelized cedarwood-musk-castoreum note; the whole thing leans slightly towards the oriental. As a result, the fragrance appears rounder and fuller overall and surpasses the original in its overwhelming effect. However, it still manages, and this is the real feat, to feel surprisingly light-footed.
But it also becomes more perfumey, powdery - and those who worship the animalistic macho of the original may not quite connect with this variation. However, for those who want to elevate the masculine Chanel No. 5 to new heights, the "Knize Ten Golden Edition" comes highly recommended!
