Silk and a Glass of Wine
With some fragrance directions, I usually run away without even smelling the perfume. My personal favorite is the "sweet-fruity" direction.
Best is a fragrance pyramid with raspberry, vanilla, and peaches in it, and I click away in a tenth of a second.
As a dessert: mais oui!
In a perfume: away with you, you sticky devil!
Now, it happened that I received six samples from the Italian brand Acqua del Garda through a very kind little manufacturer donation - many thanks for that! - which are now being passed around among the noses of the forum.
N.3 Accordo Soave, categorized here as "sweet-fruity," was the last of the samples; I had already deemed it my final boss, and then it also had raspberry, vanilla, and peach in the fragrance pyramid! I was prepared for anything, within reach of the sink with soap, brushes, alcohol, and whatever else it would take to scrub the syrup off my wrist, because it is well known that the perfumes you can least stand stick like tar.
So there I sat, dressed in a lavender silk bathrobe, on my terrace by Lake Garda. Relaxed, I had earlier taken a fragrant oil bath that even Cleopatra would not have turned down, and pampered my skin with a fine cream. It is early evening, the air is pleasantly mild, the stone terracotta tiles under my bare feet warmed by the Italian sun. I sip my glass of cool wine, stretch out in my wicker chair, and simply indulge a little in the beautiful colors of the evening sky before my beloved comes home.
Oh wait, it is still this rainy May 2021, I am sitting on my sofa in a gray metropolis of Germany, my feet are a bit cold, my hair is a mess because I had to go to Edeka earlier against the wind and heavy rain, as the butter for the risotto I wanted to cook was not enough. The spin cycle of the washing machine must have just pulled me out of my daydream!
Instead of the feared worst scent notes, I smell milky, balsamic, velvety soft musk from the very first second. The association with body care comes very quickly, but in a very positive, well-groomed sense. What vanilla, tonka, and almond do together in this scent must underline the creamy sweetness of the silkiness, yet I cannot pick out any of these notes individually. I cannot recognize raspberry, peach, or licorice with all my efforts.
Everything I smell and perceive seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the fragrance pyramid and fragrance category, and I am currently wondering a little if
a) my nose is not functioning properly? No, I can assure you,
b) I have a desire for a trip to Lake Garda? YES, who wouldn’t?,
or
c) one must always be open to new experiences to be positively surprised!
I would like to edit:
In the dry down, the vanilla does indeed become more prominent, quite sweet, but not intrusive and cheap, rather a bit viscous and golden.
