An Enjoyable Cacophony?!
Fragrances are usually made up of harmonies, beauty & aesthetics, softness & positive energies. "Afropolis" by Roads takes a different path...
It is a rebellious outlier grown from the mainstream. A wild jumble of fougere. An aquatic with a metallic bite. It doesn't know where it's going, yet it still arrives with me. Powdery iris, salty sea tones, metallic shimmer, sunny attitude. A mix that could easily be off-putting. But I like it, and it has stuck in my memory. Like a quirky yet pleasant blend of Nikos' "Sculpture" and the cucumber "Wall Street," I can't quite draw connections to African cities in my mind, but I haven't been to the breathtaking black continent that often. "Afropolis" is a powderier, trashier "Sculpture." It smells quirky, but I enjoy it. Not that I need to buy it, but at least it doesn't get a bad rating from me. Juniper, mint, vetiver & oakmoss, all of which I can distinctly smell, are just enough to elevate it. Here, arranged so piercingly & synthetically provocatively that I can't help but smile. Regardless of whether that was the intention of the creators or not.
Bottle: unembellished
Sillage: 3 letters: G o o d
Longevity: a middle-distance runner - 5-6 hours.
Conclusion: a metallic fougere whirler that provides many reasons to dismiss it. Still, I like it & its chaotic-mainstream direction... perhaps also just because of the "Sculpture" associations. Is there such a thing as fragrance trash?
