Young Cliff Diver from Acapulco

For a long, very long time, I researched this fragrance and often I was on the verge of buying it blindly. But something always held me back from completing the order. Over the last 20 years, I have tried many fragrances until most drugstore scents became far too boring for me. Now and then, I would spray one or another niche fragrance on a test strip, without knowing what I was getting into and what I was even holding in my hand. Unfortunately, it often turned out to be a grab into …… Exactly what I often see in the wine department! Everything from cheap to exclusive is there, but you reach for the bottle that has a nice design, and very often that turned out to be nothing again. That’s how I felt every time in various perfumeries that sold niche fragrances. Eventually, I stumbled upon Creed fragrances in Düsseldorf and found one or another not too bad at all. It ended at the checkout with you know what…!!! “AVENTÜÜÜS” as one or another YouTuber would pronounce it. In the Hall of Fame, you eventually come across Amouage Reflection Man. And later on, I discovered this wonderful forum, which I have come to appreciate more and more. I never wanted to register here because it all seemed so packed and overwhelming at first glance! But what lies behind it is perhaps the most brilliant forum I have ever experienced. I am originally from IT myself and know how much work and complexity goes into creating so many great features!

So back to… Yes, just a moment… I need a coffee first!

Some time after registering, I discovered the Souk feature for myself and ordered a sample of “ARM.” The next morning, the order was already in my mailbox.
Only the Prime sticker was missing ;) Many thanks again to the sender of this fragrance mail :)

Excited as an umbrella, I unpack the airmail and spray it on my skin, taking a sniff. This bouquet immediately transports me 27 years back to my childhood!
How old was I then?? Doesn’t matter…!!! Let’s leave it at that..
Back to the fragrance. “Oh yes, I know you.. I know you quite well actually. But wait… Who are you again..?? Just a moment, I’ll get it..!

And there it is, the full memory. I am in Acapulco, standing on the highest rock, focusing on the next jump, because this will be my jump. That one jump that will send all advertising campaigns into fear and terror. Just like I imagined it as a child when I saw the Cliff commercial. I always wanted that shower gel and feel like that "one" from the ad ☺ When I finally got hold of that wonderful shower gel, I felt like that cliff diver every time I showered. Maybe some of you know this vintage commercial that aired on TV back then! ARM smells exactly like the scent of Cliff back then. The next day, I went to a drugstore to see if Cliff still exists. Lo and behold, even different variations. I smelled all the versions, but none smelled like the old Cliff to me. My Cliff!!!

Back from Acapulco, here comes my impression of Amouage Reflection Man...

The fragrance is very floral, fresh, complex, and incredibly long-lasting.
3 sprays and for the next 10-12 hours, I have an Amouage shield that accompanies me throughout the workday. I have tested the fragrance for weeks and then decided to part with it. Now you might be wondering why? There are fragrances for me that I can’t get enough of. Some from (Creed & PDM) and then there are great fragrances that just become too overpowering and annoying over time. ARM is exactly one of those for me; the projection is so strong that I felt saturated after just a few tests.

That’s why I will let the beautiful memory of Cliff and my cliff dive in Acapulco rest in the past and focus on new surprises in the fragrance world as well as recommendations here from the forum ;)

You hit the nail on the head. I would have never thought of that; but you're right: wasn't the shower gel red - I mean the packaging?

Thanks for the great comment. Acapulco was also one of my favorite shower gels in the '90s. It's a shame they don't make it anymore. A whole bottle of Reflection Man would be way too much for me too. But a 10ml decant that I wear occasionally is just fine. I know what you mean about getting tired of a scent...

It went just as poorly for me as it did for you. Still, I appreciate the scent and enjoy smelling it every now and then.
