My entry into the niche world couldn't have been better!

Backstory: For Christmas 2021, I received a perfume as a gift. Joop! Home EdP. After all the drugstore scents I had in my bathroom, I finally had a real one. I slowly entered the world of perfumes, and it has become more or less a passion. I acquired several fragrances and learned new things, like the bathroom thing. I have a collection of designer scents, and in May I wanted to venture into the niche world.

I was looking for a summer scent that also has a good entry character for the niche. Unfortunately, we are very limited in Bremen when it comes to fragrances and exclusive perfumeries like Harald Lubner in Hamburg. I went to the nearest Douglas and wanted to test the few niche options there:

There it was! That feeling that arises when a scent completely overwhelms you with conviction. It was love at first sight. Therefore, I want to dedicate my first review to this fragrance.

Now to the product: It comes in bottle sizes of 50ml and 100ml. At Douglas, I paid 110€ for the latter size, but online you can sometimes save up to 30€. However, I wanted the scent immediately.
The packaging is relatively large and takes up a bit more space on the shelf for packaging enthusiasts like me. Nevertheless, it’s beautifully designed, as you open the packaging like a drawer. The fragrance is nicely placed in a snug compartment. Great presentation!
The bottle: Large and slightly wider but flatter. The brand name is on the bottom side of the bottle, which also looks good visually. Just like the Atkinsons label right in the middle of the bottle. The cap is round and gets smaller towards the bottom, with the brand logo engraved on top. Both the cap and the bottle are a bit heavier. The yellow Eau de Cologne also looks nice. Despite its size and weight, the bottle is easy to grip and spray. There’s nothing to complain about with the spray head either.

Now to the scent: The opening is slightly spicy due to the cardamom, but there’s also a certain freshness that accompanies the fragrance from start to finish. Typically British, there’s an alcohol note in the base, given by whiskey. After a short time, the heart note comes in, which I like the most; the fresh juniper note meets a note combined from tea and Turkish rose, my highlight. This fresh rose helps me cool down and relax on warm days, and overall, I sometimes feel like I’ve applied very gentle sunscreen, as the scent really reminds me of the best sunscreen I’ve ever smelled.

Longevity and sillage: It’s an Eau de Cologne. I believe the expectations are not too high. Mine weren’t, especially after the scent convinced me so much. With a normal dosage of 5 sprays, the scent was present for an hour. Since then, I always apply 10 sprays, as the scent is really not overpowering, and since the double dosage has also caught the attention of my colleagues positively a few times, this is my scent for temperatures around 20 degrees. It performs best there and lasted almost the entire workday for me. Therefore, with the double dosage, the scent has a solid longevity and sillage for an Eau de Cologne.

Price-performance: Since this May, I have tested several other fragrances, and there were many scents for the warmer season, but none come close to this one. And for just 100€, this is a gem for me.

The conclusion: It’s my first niche fragrance, and I couldn’t be happier. It smells beautiful, meets my expectations, and is still an EdC. The price is great. In my still designer-heavy collection, which I want to refine with niche fragrances, this scent will remain forever and be repurchased. A beautiful fragrance!
