Crisp, then boozy
I ordered this online and by accident I was sent the limited edition with metal framing on the bottle. Upon first spray, the scent truely amazed me. So clean and crisp, something I had never experienced before. Double luck, I thought!

It was only that one day, though. The next time I oversprayed and it was so heavy on me for a while that it gave me a headache. My bad! Maybe also because the powdery cleanliness is lost really fast on my skin and all I get is a warm Scotch and cardemom buzz. So sad. I want to go back to that first spray's wow!

Although it doesn't seem to fit well on me, 24 Old Bond Street does exude sophistication and class. Oxfords rather than Derbies.

Tea in a pinstripe suit
24 Bond Street is a fresh green scent –an aromatic combo of juniper and tea– with a classy, mature, boozy-floral personality: behind the green shoots hides a subtle whiskey and rose heart made in fragrance heaven. As the scent dries down all these notes smoothly blend together and evolve into a familiar, slightly powdery, vintage men's cologne territory.

Like many creations by Atkinsons this is an elegant scent that exudes sophistication and requires a suave, confident wearer. A grown up, old-school-yet-modern perfume to be enjoyed by discerning masculine noses.

Are you feeling well, Sir John?
A glorious late summer Sunday morning. Pleasantly warm, the grass is dry and invites a stroll through the garden. “Good morning!” echoes from the rose beds. Darcey Bussell smiles at me coquettishly and elegantly raises her arms into a ballerina pose. “You broken diva…” I think and smile back kindly and indulgently. “You should have become an Edelrose.” The six Chippendales, those show-offs, are doing hip-circling warm-up exercises and casually greet me. They are distracted and constantly peeking around the ornamental currant to the next bed, wondering if the Heidi Klum rose is watching them. However, she is currently applying her third layer of youthfulness and isn't looking over. It’s getting increasingly embarrassing with her. Instead, Mariatheresia waves graciously, grimaces in disgust at her neighbor, and whispers with the Baroness.

Even the slugs come up with a munching “Hey!”

Only Sir John Betjeman stands completely still. “Good Morning, Sir John!” I call out - cruelly much louder than necessary. He flinches, struggles to open one eye, and looks up at me. “Oh my God!”, he whines. “It must still be the middle of the night. Where is the sun coming from? Can’t someone just push it away?” Sir John winks painfully at the sky, but no cloud does him the favor. He breathes in. Breathes out. Breathes in. Silence. “Bööööaaaaarp!” a surge of let’s-call-it-air emerges. A post-alcohol-laden smell of stale, stomach-acid-flavored whisky escapes his well-disinfected throat and mingles with an intense foreign rose scent. Surely the gentleman had closer dealings with a lady last night. I have a suspicion that something is going on between him and, for instance, Louise Odier this time. His delicate green personal scent, on the other hand, is completely overshadowed.

Silence. “Sir John? Hello? Are you feeling well?” Before any concern can arise, the gentleman tilts his red head slightly to the side and expertly lets out a hearty ‘Hualp!’ in the direction away from me. When the suffering gaze of the now dripping shrub on the ground meets mine, I remember guiltily that I promised to transplant it. Soon. Very soon. Right after the next rain. The poor thing. Who would have thought that the life of a rose underplanting could be such a hard lot.

“You clearly had quite a party last night!” But he hardly listens. Although his mouth corners are still dripping, he winks at Darcey and Louise. “As a womanizer, a real pro…” I must acknowledge. As he wipes his face, his leaves scrape against his prickly chin (roses have thorns, not prickles!). “But if Louise or Darcey could smell this cheesy-sour odor right now, they wouldn’t be so fond of him…” I think. I quickly take a whiff of the sweetly fluttering Maiden’s Blush before I continue my stroll.

---------

I’m sorry, dear 24 fans - I find the combination of rose and whisky exceedingly unfortunate, to put it mildly. Not only does it make me feel quite nauseous, but also, in an absolute sense, the idea behind it remains foreign to me. Cheese foot in alcohol in the rose bed? Given the consciously (optionally pretentiously) eccentric claim of Atkinson’s, it seems quite conceivable that they are laughing hysterically at their own composition. The white floral note right after application would have sufficed for me, which unpleasantly reminds me of my occasionally mentioned tuberose soft cheese. And then the continuation: No rose I know (and I know a few) smells like that. Not to mention the other ingredients.

Only hours later does the mixture become more pleasant, if one can put it that way. Yet even in the final phase, after 8-plus hours, the hungover, drunken rose stands its ground. Technically possibly an achievement - for me, simply a knockout criterion, hence my highly individual and perhaps unfair assessment. Personally, I find the ostentatious eccentricity taken one or two steps too far.

Advantage for you: One less person out there walking around with this stuff.

PS: I apologize for a bit of exaggeration with artistic freedom - Maiden’s Blush does not bloom in late summer anymore.

Barista Business
Talking about the perfume house Atkinsons without knowing the originator, the original men's fragrance 24 Old Bond Street, is not appropriate. Because although there were fragrances from the brand before, it is this fine all-rounder that represents the brand today like no other.

Hardly any fragrance embodies & merges English etiquette with modern city life and businessman so perfectly. It doesn't get more English & refined than this. An incredibly good suit fragrance. The stuff that gentlemen are made of. Fine, in all meanings & spellings that exist in the world. Only Kiton or Eau de Cade come close, aside from the new Triple Extract, which represents an even more suit-appropriate, sharper form of this modern classic. Juniper meets rose, restraint meets elegance. Cedarwood meets aftershave, an English duke meets the barista in London. Old meets new, cool meets composed. It is not really a true tea scent like Malabah & Co., but it certainly has a calming effect along with a smoky undertone. A grand spectacle & a must-sniff if you are dealing with contemporary fragrance art from the British Empire!

Bottle: noble, English, exquisite
Sillage: largely delicate to whisper-soft
Longevity: 5-6 hours maximum strength.

Conclusion: the English high-class office scent & incredibly tasteful! If only it wouldn't run out of air & ideas quite so quickly...

Gentlemen/Members only!
If the creators of "24 Old Bond Street" at Atkinsons are dreaming, they are gravely mistaken:
This English Eau de Cologne with a very pronounced personality also attracts women!

An aromatic fragrance cocktail that opens with the cool spice of cardamom and slightly zesty juniper, before a typically English Earl Grey tea infusion with its light bergamot note meets a large bouquet of fragrant roses, already grabs attention; it awakens curiosity for more.
Interest peaks the moment smoky golden whisky with a mature "old oak barrel touch" steps onto the fragrance stage.
The silvery-silky cedarwood aroma cuddles with rich amber; thus, an eccentric woody-resinous fragrance arrangement is formed.
From these few components emerges a typically English Eau de Cologne with a spicy and fresh-floral aura and a smoky-woody finale on my skin.

"24 Old Bond Street" is particularly refreshing on summery warm days.
This fragrance creation transports me to shady, fragrant places, where it is much more pleasant than in a wood-paneled dark "men's cave" called a club on Old Bond Street.
Aromatic Earl Grey tea in a thermos and also a bottle of whisky can come along in the picnic basket, and so we women disregard the tradition of "good old England" and simply enjoy an elegant spicy-green scent!

For 2, 3 hours projects like crazy with 3 sprays. It is quite green and floral, not too boozy as one might think. Quite generic, I´ll pass.

It's a bit feminine and smells outdated to my nose. It gives me inept older guy vibes.

A subtle herbaceous-sweet rose scent with a spicy-woody base. It quickly becomes intimate and lasts about 5-6 hours.

Lighter and drier than the black variant, but less lasting and not better. Juniper is subtle, other notes seem plausible.

Man, so disappointing.
Atkinson really intrigued me,
but the first test was sobering.

Clarity as a scent.
Menthol-fresh opening is followed by
spicy juniper clarity.
I don't get any rose.
That's fine.
An unlovely tea scent.
