A nostalgic “Cream Savers” hard candy scent!

This scent absolutely took me by surprise!

Evasion Bonbon smells exactly as they intended it to, like strawberry “Cream Savers” hard candies. This also reminds me of the powdered pink strawberry Bon Bon toffees we used to get in the 80’s. It’s such a nostalgic scent for me. Perfect for a cool sunny day. It lifts my mood and instantly makes me feel happy. It’s a sweet, creamy, comforting and fun daytime scent. It is very sickly sweet on the initial spray, but it dies down quite quickly … and I absolutely love the dry down! I can’t stop smelling my wrist. I find it addictive! I don’t find this juvenile or cheap smelling at all. I’m in my 40’s and happily wear this.

Juvenile and artificial strawberry candies

After trying out Brownie Pop yesterday, I do have to admit my hopes were dashed about the two new Maison Mataha release. Unfortunately, this one also fell flat.

Juvenile. It's so overwhelmingly sweet, artifical and synthetic that I feel like it's one of those cheap body mists with flashy colors and a sweetness overload (no shame to those who like that, but I don't) that caters to young kids. I would certainly not pay 295$ CAN for this fragrance. Strawberry is strong, but it's an artificial, sugary, candy-like strawberry. There's the powderiness of marshmallow and the sugary sweetness of caramel. Reminded me of a Strawberry Tagada or a strawberry licorice. I do get some florals somewhere buried deep down. Jasmine enhances the powdery effect, while ylang-ylang added a tropical, fruity twist to the strawberry. Don't bother though, strawberry candy remains the reigning champion in this scent. I do start getting some vanilla and muskiness as it moves forward. It has better projection and longevity than Brownie Pop, although nowhere near Escapade Gourmande's legendary performance.

With the overwhelming synthetic and powdery aspect, this is definitely a resounding no. The sweetness is almost nausea-inducing and the fragrance remains pretty linear / one-note. They didn't miss the mark for their marketing, but something here screams juvenile and the pricepoint doesn't match the scent. Was Escapade Gourmande a one-hit wonder from this house? Only time will tell...

Strawberry candy and nothing else

I really enjoyed Escapade Gourmande and I also like sweet fruity candy scents, so my hopes for Evasion Bonbon were high.

Unfortunately I found it disappointing. It does smell like a piece of strawberry candy, so it wasn't a case of false advertising. It's just not my type of candy scent, as it's extremely simple and one-dimensional. Especially in the opening the sweetness is too strong and artificial. In the drydown it's a little smoother, but I would be lying if I said I smelled the floral notes, musk or even a realistic vanilla or marshmallow. This scent honestly reminds me of a strawberry push pop. Now sometimes simple gourmands can work, but when all they convey is just artificial strawberry flavor, I'm neither willing to shell out 200€ for a bottle, nor to wear it when I have so many better scents.
I have to admit that the strawberry candy note is done nicely, at least it doesn't have a gross "licked lollipop" or "sticky toddler fingers" undertone (yes, I have encountered that in other perfumes!).

It doesn't smell all that bad, but it's my least favorite of the 3 Maison Mahata fragrances. I can only recommend it if you're looking for something very simple and sugary for a premium price.

Sweet treat

I enjoyed sampling this. It's a good sweet scent for the wintertime that isn't too cloying.

From the start, the strawberry candy and marshmallows are apparent. The strawberry is tart, smelling more so like fresh strawberries than the synthetic flavoring, and the marshmallow is sweet and slightly powdery. Unfortunately, the strawberry candy fades after about an hour.

After this, I mainly get marshmallows. About two hours in though, the marshmallow becomes almost coconutty when the jasmine and ylang-ylang come out and it also becomes very creamy. At about five hours in, the vanilla emerges and adds its sweetness to the mix. Then, once the marshmallows and floral notes fade, it's vanilla and musk for the remainder of the wear.

Overall, this is a great gourmand and lasted for about 10 hours on my skin. I probably won't be getting a full bottle though because I wanted the strawberry to last longer and I'm not a big fan of coconut-adjacent smells.
