In times when a Mars mission is actually being considered, the somewhat old-fashioned fragrance line Marte Eau de Toilette from the affordable yet consistently solid Italian label Battistoni, dating back to 1986, seems almost innovative, even if the design of the bottle featuring the portrait of the god of war is more aligned with Roman mythology.
In parallel, several flankers and the fragrance that can be considered its own line, "Marterosso (Eau de Toilette) | Battistoni," which explicitly references the red planet with its name, were released in the following years and decades. I came across it thanks to a tip from the ever-resourceful user Hapax (thanks to you!) and the fact that the Parfumo search now allows for the combination of quirky fragrance categories for targeted searches. I had been on the lookout for a scent with myrtle and lavender, and preferably also floral-spicy notes (immortelle, broom, strawflower, cistus). During this search, I noticed the wonderful review by Turandot on "Cala Rossa | Santa Maria Novella," as the fragrance indeed contains these notes (lavender, myrtle, strawflower, and cistus) in a well-balanced manner. While it would certainly be a candidate for the collection, after swapping out the somewhat herbaceous and stricter immortelle for the sweeter yet quirky note of broom in the search function, I ended up with "Marterosso (Eau de Toilette) | Battistoni." The addition of notes of verbena, bergamot, and a strangely bulky yet fascinating base note, which I attribute to leather or patchouli, pleases me even more.
In addition to recommending this fairly affordable and yet very distinctive fragrance, I would like to refer once again to the new search feature on Parfumo, which, especially through the "categories" function, allows for a wealth of research opportunities.
It's a typical charming Italian brand that feels like it's been around forever and always offers fair prices. The quality is good, and you might like the scent!
Exciting scent notes, and the verbena really catches my attention too. Away from the big retail stores, you can definitely find some great gems in Italy.
Italians are usually associated with pleasant scents, so it's all the more interesting that this one is described as "quirky" and "difficult." Sounds good to me!
What can I say?
The scent scored a whopping 0.5 points higher for me.

I really liked it, especially the myrtle.
We really understand each other when it comes to ingredients.

A look at the night sky is always fascinating. I've been able to spot Mars alongside a few other planets. But whether I鈥檇 want to go there...
Broom is interesting in fragrances; it's wonderfully quirky. As a garden plant, though, it's not as common as it was in my childhood.
And the scent seems to be a success too. Good things don't always have to be unaffordable 馃槉
I'm glad to hear that, and I'm always curious about what others notice during their research. I find the differentiation of individual notes and categories particularly interesting. 馃檹
I'm always on the lookout for great value, not because I'm hunting for bargains, but because I still believe in the idea of a fragrance world for everyone. So you're absolutely right. 馃檹
Many years ago, I received a sample of Battistoni. I believe it was the Classico. Among the many classic chypre-fresh notes, it stood out to me back then for its solidity and innovation, which is already hard to reconcile.
I was also occasionally positively surprised in the past. Cappellusman had discovered them earlier and gave me some to test, and for the price, it's almost a little miracle. 馃檹
a green-masculine gem

I remember your myrtle research. :-)
I also find the new search function very helpful.

Thank you so much for the inspiration.
