Strikingly unobtrusive, for daily use

Recently, I had classified this little water as drugstore material, but I promised a revision. Today, I believe it is quite special, but successful. What Marterosso conveys is a classically beautifully structured freshness, a flower well embedded in herbs with a hint of sweetness. Even now, in summer temperatures, with sweat from sports, I find no aversion. Perhaps I just feel comfortable with the scent, and that is attractive?

It is simply a good thing. One might say it is a fougère, but not from the mild meadows, rather powerful like Azzaro Pour Homme with a bitter grassy, medicinal floral note. The base is also immediately leathery, spicy. Strikingly unobtrusive, for daily use.

On the Way to the Red Planet

In times when a Mars mission is actually being considered, the somewhat old-fashioned fragrance line Marte Eau de Toilette from the affordable yet consistently solid Italian label Battistoni, dating back to 1986, seems almost innovative, even if the design of the bottle featuring the portrait of the god of war is more aligned with Roman mythology.

In parallel, several flankers and the fragrance that can be considered its own line, "Marterosso (Eau de Toilette) | Battistoni," which explicitly references the red planet with its name, were released in the following years and decades. I came across it thanks to a tip from the ever-resourceful user Hapax (thanks to you!) and the fact that the Parfumo search now allows for the combination of quirky fragrance categories for targeted searches. I had been on the lookout for a scent with myrtle and lavender, and preferably also floral-spicy notes (immortelle, broom, strawflower, cistus). During this search, I noticed the wonderful review by Turandot on "Cala Rossa | Santa Maria Novella," as the fragrance indeed contains these notes (lavender, myrtle, strawflower, and cistus) in a well-balanced manner. While it would certainly be a candidate for the collection, after swapping out the somewhat herbaceous and stricter immortelle for the sweeter yet quirky note of broom in the search function, I ended up with "Marterosso (Eau de Toilette) | Battistoni." The addition of notes of verbena, bergamot, and a strangely bulky yet fascinating base note, which I attribute to leather or patchouli, pleases me even more.

In addition to recommending this fairly affordable and yet very distinctive fragrance, I would like to refer once again to the new search feature on Parfumo, which, especially through the "categories" function, allows for a wealth of research opportunities.
