Conspicuously inconspicuous, for daily use

Last time I qualified this water as a drugstore product, but promised a review. Today I think it is quite special, but successful. What Marterosso conveys is a classically beautifully constructed freshness, a flower well embedded in the herb with a hint of sweetness. Even now in summer temperatures, I don't find any aversion to it. Maybe I just feel comfortable with the scent and that is attractive?

It's simply a good thing. You could say fougere, but not from the mild Shire, but powerful like Azzaro Pour Homme with a bitter, grassy, medicinal floral twist. The base is also leathery and spicy. Strikingly inconspicuous, for daily use.

In times when a mission to Mars is actually being considered, the somewhat old-fashioned fragrance line Marte Eau de Toilette from the inexpensive but always solid Italian label Battistoni from 1986 seems downright innovative, even if the design of the bottle with the portrait of the god of war is probably more oriented towards Roman mythology.

In the years and decades that followed, a number of flanker fragrances appeared in parallel, as well as Marterosso Eau de Toilette, which is more of a fragrance line in its own right and whose name is now explicitly reminiscent of the red planet. I came across it thanks to a tip from the ever-resourceful user Hapax (thanks to you!) and the fact that you can now use the Parfumo search function to research and search for specific fragrance categories. I had been looking for some time for a fragrance with myrtle and lavender and also spicy floral notes (immortelle, broom, immortelle, cistus). I came across Turandot's wonderful review of Cala Rossa, because the fragrance actually contains these notes (lavender, myrtle, immortelle and cistus) in a well-balanced way. In fact, this would be a candidate for the collection, but after using the search function to replace the somewhat herbaceous, more austere immortelle with the sweeter, yet more idiosyncratic scent of broom, I ended up with Marterosso Eau de Toilette. The addition of notes of verbena, bergamot and a strangely bulky but fascinating base note, which I associate with leather or patchouli, makes it all the more appealing to me.
