When Tea Hangs from Your Neck. Or: Meditation Until You Drop
Sandalo by Byblos is anything but a pure sandalwood scent - one could even argue that the creamy wood is not even the clear focus here. A large part of this soft charmer is undoubtedly that. It reminds me somewhat of a lighter version of "Tea For Two" - so I can also hit the Chai tea note. A strange fragrance - qualitatively always with one foot in the niche and the other in the lowest drugstore muck.
A delicate hint of milk, a big hint of a cedar-sandalwood mixture - along with the classic chai scent. Ommmmm... Almost a bit of sauna and luxury hotel feeling comes to mind. Indian, but of a higher standard. Worth a look for wood groupies. If you can still find this Byblos anywhere. Deductions come into play, alongside its (pleasantly honest) simple nature & simplicity, in the B-note: in the first third, the scent pricks, pinches & annoys with a synthetic aftertaste that is particularly unpleasant up close. The surroundings hardly notice, they barely catch the scent anyway, but the tester reacted almost allergically. Was it due to the age of the sample & a tipping point? I believe rather that the scent, like any good guru, simply needs a little time to find itself... ;)
Bottle: an ugly mothereffer!!!
Sillage: a wallflower at tea time
Longevity: surprisingly enduring - 6-7 hours.
Conclusion: more Teadalo than Sandalo, more cedar than sandalwood. Soothing, relaxed, full of wellness & wisdom & leisure... if it weren't for this getting-used-to synthetic undertone... Brrr!
