Why Didn't You Say No
Love Dont be Shy Amber and Oud Special Blend was more than a difficult birth. In June 2022, I had the chance to test it in a Kilian store in Dubai. I was already extremely triggered when the saleswoman said this would probably be the last collaboration with the Arab market. Normally, I jump on such information right away, but even though I was already in the perfume game back then, the scent overwhelmed me. I found it beautiful, but I probably just wasn't ready for it yet. I chose a different perfume in Dubai and forgot about this one.
Until I found out that my parents were planning to fly to Dubai again in April 2024. I saw my chance and created an overview for my mother of 4 fragrances (on an A4 sheet, with name, manufacturer, and yes, also directions on where to find the scents in Dubai) and asked her to bring me one of them. The Kilian was also on this list, knowing full well that it had long since become a thing of the past and was probably no longer available.
So my mother didn't find it, nor any of the other three fragrances. In the Duty Free on the return flight, she and my father each bought a perfume, and because the saleswoman was so nice, Mom made one last attempt and held my note under her nose. According to my mother's account, the saleswoman then disappeared and returned after 10 minutes with a dusty but completely intact Kilian. And so it came into my possession. Because now I was ready for it.
The Special Blend is a wonderful combination of a beautiful rose lying on a cozy amber bed. On this bed, marshmallows and oud are also rolling around, connected in a passionate, slightly dirty but also graceful affair. They lie under an orange blossom blanket with vanilla ornaments, enjoying the sweet but also wild night. The scent does not have a progression; the components are all beautifully intertwined but also distinctly perceivable. And they are there immediately.
Love Dont be Shy Special Blend is feminine, sensual, and seductive. An absolute powerhouse, but if you dose it well, it is attractive and exciting without being overwhelming.
I don't know the original from Kilian, but I think it smells, in contrast to the Special Blend, like a stable and comforting relationship rather than a dirty affair.
As expected, the scent lasts wonderfully long. I am a bit disappointed with the bottle; I had imagined it to be a bit more high-quality. I can't assess the price-performance ratio. According to my parents, it was very expensive, but they didn't want to tell me the exact amount.
