Small wave of enthusiasm
With Waves I inevitably think of the song of the same name from the early 80s of the British pop duo Blancmange. In Germany it was at least a bigger hit than their more famous songs "Blind Vision" and "Don´t Tell Me" which made them more successful internationally.
In the relatively calm melancholic, but very finely arranged song it is more or less about saying goodbye and forgetting a love - but what is more imprinted in my head is the video, which plays on a small cutter in a strong swell. By the standards of the time, it was extraordinary because it was simple, yet quite expressive and inconspicuously complex.
The situation is similar with Cerchi's Eau de Parfum Nell´acqua by Enrico Buccella. It is by no means aquatic or fresh, but exactly the opposite with more complex borrowings than one might assume from the name or linear structure: from the beginning rather warm resinous notes like opoponax or woody-sweetish like sandalwood pulsate. In between orange blossoms, discreet but well perceptible, anything but sweetened and rather masculine.
But also floral and minimal traces of jasmine, lavender and iris can be found, even if only very reservedly. Even the cinnamon was - fortunately - used sparingly, because even a few splashes too much would dominate too much. Here, however, absolutely finely arranged in the overall structure.
Towards the end, and this is usually quite late with a perfume by Enrico Buccella, Waves becomes much softer, because then Amber appears more intense and finalizes balsamic-oriental with a slight course towards powderiness.
In conclusion, I would say that Waves is a masculine orange blossom fragrance with a cultivated heaviness of oriental and resinous notes, without going to extremes. Very full-bodied and of high quality, but at the same time with a fruitygourmandiger component, which does not let the smell crush. Probably comes in autumn more ideal - or on cooler summer days or later summer evenings
