Animalistic Big Cat That Unfortunately Fades Too Quickly
My first Yardley. This 1969 fragrance was quite difficult to obtain. Well, you can find quite a bit on ebay.it, including this one.
Since there was almost nothing to find out about this scent, the first sniff once again represented one of those welcome moments where excitement meets expectation, allowing the inclined old-schooler to hope for new discoveries and associations. Well then, here we go...
Yes, quite animalistic, yet this Puma is a rather well-groomed big cat; no trace of its notorious cage, instead a beautifully natural light sweetness and plenty of spiciness, mostly without that "old man note" that characterizes many fragrances from its era. It comes across quite lively and, for its year of release, even a bit progressive. A very successful blend that even adds citrus components (in the heart note!).
Everything is very clean, unobtrusive, and yet distinctive. The only drawback of "Cougar" is its rather limited longevity. Unfortunately, it doesn't last more than 2-3 hours. However, one cannot really blame it for that. It does call itself "Eau de Cologne for Men." I wonder if it ever existed as an EdT? I fear not. Be that as it may, the quality offered is enough for me to rate it at 90%, albeit just barely.
