Better than its big (or little) brother?

Have a nice Sunday dear perfumos,

today I would like to share with you my personal and highly unprofessional impression of the new Creed release.

Ever since it was announced earlier this year that Creed would be releasing a new version of their blockbuster "OF FU**ING ALL TIME" Aventus, I've been as excited as hell. Not least because I've been a die hard Aventus fan from the first sniff. At least until the 2018 batches... You know the reason... Since then, I've switched to the competition from Armaf *cough*.

Well, on with the text. After my sharing bottle arrived a few days ago, I was able to test the new Absolu for a few days. I would now like to share these test impressions with you in more "professional" terms.

OPENING:
Absolu Aventus opens with a fruity, slightly tart and really very realistic grapefruit, which is clearly in the foreground for the first few minutes. The currant tames the grapefruit somewhat with its berry, sweetish fragrance component and rounds it off nicely. The well-dosed ginger is added and gives its light, fresh spiciness as a little kick start.

PROCESS:
After around 15-20 minutes, the Absolu earns its big name, as the original Aventus DNA comes through quite clearly at this point and shines with the familiar notes: pineapple, pink pepper and patchouli.

After a while, a very finely dosed and well-balanced cardamom with light cinnamon notes is added. The cardamom and cinnamon move out of the background and become stronger over time without stepping into the limelight at any time, resulting in a harmonious, fruity/sweet-spicy Aventus overall picture. Very finely balanced!

The fruity/sweet-spicy overall picture lasts a good 5-6 hours until the drydown, whereby the performance is significantly better than the current Aventus batches, but still within the familiar Creed framework, which I don't mean as a criticism at all.

A little explanation: Creed has always been very keen (at least I think so) to create a rather natural and not overly penetrating fragrance experience.

In my opinion, this is the real purpose of a perfume - to emphasize the wearer's appearance and not to cover it up. As with its big (or little?) brother, the performance also depends on the temperature. I have always found Aventus to perform very well in warmer environments. An Aventus that was thought to be lost may well wake up again in a well-tempered restaurant or a sweaty bar.

What could be done better in my opinion, however, is to maintain the spicy overall picture in a stable and clearly perceptible manner over the full duration. The Sauvage Elixir does this much better - probably also because individual notes are dosed higher and are therefore longer and more clearly recognizable. The Absolu "runs" a little over time - whether a point of criticism or a total work of art, everyone can decide for themselves.

DRYDOWN:
Towards the end, it becomes a little more woody and herbaceous, thanks to the vetiver, cashmere wood and oakmoss. Overall, a harmonious and thoroughly classic farewell.

COMPARISON OF Elixir and Absolu:
I would also like to briefly discuss the much-discussed comparison with Sauvage Elixir.
I can understand the comparison to Elixir that some perfumistas and perfume youtubers draw, as both fragrances contain similar scents.
The Sauvage Elixir starts similarly to the Absolu with fruity grapefruit, although I immediately notice the spicy cardamom and nutmeg in the Elixir. In comparison, the Absolu is somewhat softer and more "cautious" than the Elixir, but this is in no way to be understood negatively towards the Elixir. Both fragrances remain true to their original characteristics and ideas.
In my opinion, both fragrances go in the same spicy direction with a very high pleasantness factor and a certain twist. Whereby the Elixir knows how to stand out a little more from the original DNA.

GENERAL CONCLUSION:
With the Absolu, Creed has brought a really successful release for the end of the year and the colder days, which could make me really weak to pay the really high price for a whole bottle. However, I will think twice about this and postpone it until 2024, if at all. When testing it, I also realized for myself that I find the original Aventus DNA a little boring in comparison and that the Absolu would be a really enriching addition to an existing collection. Coming back to the comparison of Elixir and Absolu: in a direct comparison, the Dior flanker is slightly ahead due to its more pronounced diversity and more stable fragrance characteristics.

In the end, however, it's personal taste that counts, which is what makes our fragrance hobby so beautiful and exciting.

I hope I have been able to paint a somewhat comprehensible picture of fragrance and entertain you a little on this cold Sunday. :-)
