Smoky beeswax-polished wood
On my skin, Hearth opens with a sharp blast of animalic smoke and sweet resins. The prickly peppery lemon of the frankincense seems to take the edge off the sweetness, stopping it from being too sickly.
Once the alcohol evaporates completely, a hint of medicinal leather emerges, soon after which cade becomes a main player. There aren't really too many top notes in this frag, but after a few minutes that isn't an issue as each facet starts to balance itself beautifully; the dry savoury smokiness from the cade is balanced by the sweet benzoin and chewy labdanum base, the frankincense lends its contrast to the mix, and an undertone of civet rounds the whole shebang off nicely.
Further into the dry down, a honey-like note starts to form, and the overall impression is of smelling an old beeswax-polished antique fire surround; the smoke playing with the sweet wax and astringent nuances of the aged wood.
This is definitely not a scent for the faint of heart; the opening is a little wild, but after a few minutes evolves into something rather enjoyable. Sillage is moderate; it won't fill a room, but people nearby will be catching whiffs every so often. Longevity is very good with the bulk of the fragrance lasting 5-6 hours on my skin, becoming progressively softer and warmer until finally settling into a skin scent reminiscent of savoury honey which lingers for a further 2-3 hours.

Burning antiques.
On my skin Hearth opens with a nuclear blast of sharp frankincense and sweet honey. Within minutes the prickly cedar/cade smoke floods in and the whole shebang becomes a glorious, sweet wood smoke. Like someone's burning antique furniture.

The heart settles into a thrumming camp-fire smoke, with creamy benzoin and sweet honey notes keeping it from becoming too harsh or ashen. The experience is rather like burning varnished wood. Smoke galore with a hint of sweet, resinous lacquer. The oud in this is very gentle, a shimmering back-note that adds to the sweetness of the honey and the richness of the tobacco and does an excellent, subtle job of tying the two together. I find the palmarosa more prevalent in the heart than the top, and it adds a slight dusty tone that compliments the smoke and keeps the sweetness from getting cloying.

As it wears on the wood smoke simmers down nicely into dry, sweet embers gently smoking in the afternoon breeze. The tobacco and honey join hands here and do a lovely job of bringing the entire experience to a close.

Completely unisex to my nose. Longevity is decent but not stellar, 6-7 hours on my skin. Sillage is quite aggressive, but doesn't feel overwhelming except for maybe in the first ten minutes when the smoke is at it's strongest. Not my favourite of the Criminal Elements line, but for those who like heavily smoky frags, this will be sure to please.

Cathedral on fire
I love smoky, weird, spiky, confronting perfumes, and this just has me tap dancing with joy. It ticks ALL those boxes, and more. First smelled from the bottle, there's a visceral punch to the nose of exceedingly bright, prickly frankincense, swiftly followed by acres of freshly burned out bushland. The honey and tobacco notes manage to tie all this loud craziness back into a lovely whole, and while the dry down never loses that delicious initial edginess, it becomes positively palatable as the day wears on, purring away like a semi-tamed big cat. I can tell this will be a favourite rainy-winter's-day fragrance for me this year. I love it lots.
