Smoky beeswax-polished wood

On my skin, Hearth opens with a sharp blast of animalic smoke and sweet resins. The prickly peppery lemon of the frankincense seems to take the edge off the sweetness, stopping it from being too sickly.
Once the alcohol evaporates completely, a hint of medicinal leather emerges, soon after which cade becomes a main player. There aren't really too many top notes in this frag, but after a few minutes that isn't an issue as each facet starts to balance itself beautifully; the dry savoury smokiness from the cade is balanced by the sweet benzoin and chewy labdanum base, the frankincense lends its contrast to the mix, and an undertone of civet rounds the whole shebang off nicely.
Further into the dry down, a honey-like note starts to form, and the overall impression is of smelling an old beeswax-polished antique fire surround; the smoke playing with the sweet wax and astringent nuances of the aged wood.
This is definitely not a scent for the faint of heart; the opening is a little wild, but after a few minutes evolves into something rather enjoyable. Sillage is moderate; it won't fill a room, but people nearby will be catching whiffs every so often. Longevity is very good with the bulk of the fragrance lasting 5-6 hours on my skin, becoming progressively softer and warmer until finally settling into a skin scent reminiscent of savoury honey which lingers for a further 2-3 hours.
