Fragrant conglomeration
49 Fragrance ingredients, if I have not miscounted, the fragrance pyramid for 'Mata Hari' lists. A true conglomeration, whereby that is not so the correct designation, since a conglomeration is not exactly what positive.
The start is very strong, something liqueurish comes to my mind, not necessarily flowery rather balsamic and resinous.
After half an hour, 'Mata Hari' is very resinous and spicy, I have to think of carnation and pimento, and also completely unsweet.
A little later, on the hour, a lot of wood is added to the spices. After about two hours Patchouli mixes in and rounds off the fragrance.
Spicy, soft and oriental sweet with wood is now 'Mata Hari' and doesn't change much anymore.
Mata Hari' is a fragrance that leaves me a bit perplexed, it is not exactly feminine for me but also not unisex. Especially in the first half of the fragrance development 'Mata Hari' is rather masculine.
Mata Hari' is best worn in cold and cool temperatures. The Sillage is very good in the first three hours, but the scent then retreats very quickly. The shelf life was about eight hours with me.
