Woodman
Unlike what is typical for a classic cologne, and especially when it comes from an English heritage brand like D.R. Harris, Marlborough does not present us with any of the usual suspects:
No citrus fruits, no lavender, no neroli, no green leaves, nothing.
Instead, there is plenty of wood, specifically cedar, in all its gnarly glory and with its dust-dry humor.
This Marlborough is a pure soliflore; anyone who has smelled the essential oil of cedarwood will recognize it unmistakably here, and I dare say that with a bit of alcohol diluted, we would have almost a twin.

However, it creaks a bit too much for me to truly enjoy it; a little glimmer in the underbrush would ultimately do it good.
The raw materials used are indeed of high quality (as one is accustomed to from this house) and not annoying pseudo-woods, but in the company of a few of its cheerier friends with a lighter disposition, I simply prefer the old cedar.

Lift my Smurf
»Oooh, Mistle Hallis, lift my Smurf, Mistle Hallis.« I think of these immortal words from "Lost in Translation" every time I apply D.R. Harris Marlborough. I am just as enthusiastic as the lady from the escort service who is sent to Bill Murray's character's hotel room - just not so contrived.

Little children and perfume beginners like me need clear conditions and clear statements. This is one of those. The stuff smells from head to toe like wood, but in its blend, it is quite subtle and not exclusively so. Marlborough is fresh to my nose, even when freshness doesn’t always mean lemon, and, which is sometimes really refreshing: not a bit sweet or powdery. As far as I can tell, it is quite close to the skin and, as a cologne, not particularly intense, but definitely noticeable. I like such scents: Very dry - yes, but despite all the roughness, with just the right hint of remaining moisture, in a way, with dry humor. Maybe I only think that because I always think of Bill Murray when I wear it.

Children like simple dishes like pasta with tomato sauce; I also like simple dishes and sometimes simple scents. With this fragrance, you certainly won't commit to anything overly complex, but rather a subtly quirky and mature act.

I can smell the sandalwood, unlike with their Sandalwood.

Ring… Hartinger Carpentry, yes, the boss is here. He’s in the wood storage. Hold on - I’ll find him - it’s dusty in here… oh - now he’s gone.

Great cologne, which is only recognizable as a cologne due to its longevity and sillage. Bright wood, little spice, then slightly creamy. Top.
