Vintage goodness

I am going to spill the proverbial beans on this fragrance. Many have not heard of this, and even less have actually smelled this. I am here to tell you that if you are a fan of the the vintage Antaeus or any of the classic castoreum/moss/leather based fragrances, then you need to add this to your list pronto. I am not going to break it down into notes, as you can surely read...I am just here to say that it actually smells like it looks. This is aptly named "Men's Classic" and if you can procure some, just do it. In my mind it joins the ranks of Derby, Patou, and other wonderful mixtures that so many covet.

Another Lost Gem

Yes, given the year of release, the fragrance had virtually no chance against competitors like "Antaeus," "Kouros," and other powerhouses of that era. If it had been released 10 or 15 years earlier, when not every designer had their own fragrances on the market yet, it could have held its own against the then-competitors from the budget range like "Tabac," "Canada Cedar," and similar scents.

The fragrance is clean, straightforward, and unpretentious, yet it still has power and longevity. An extremely versatile spicy-woody masculine representative, to which its name actually fits here for once. In the drydown, it even becomes gourmand, with a subtle chocolate note...

The colleague is practically only available as a mini now. I acquired it as part of a smaller mini-collection and was really pleasantly surprised by its quality. At least 90% of today's mainstream fragrances it easily puts to shame.

Men's Classic is from Mülhens, oh yes, yes, so like 4711, Extase etc., average, consumable, mainstream...
I thought so too.

But that's not the case, Men's Classic is really well made. Hello, having jasmine, lily of the valley, and clove in the heart note of a men's fragrance, without making the bottle pink, takes skill.
The top note is fresh-spicy, nothing really intoxicating yet, it's slowly developing, there it is, is it coming... no, not yet, first vetiver and the spices come through stronger, well, it's getting there.
Gradually, a wood note develops that I haven't found in any other perfume, nothing earthy, a little bit like terre d'hermes, but much clearer and purer. Almost like freshly cut wood, unique.
Released in 1986 as a complete series, everything well done.
Today, unfortunately, it's very hard to find, especially not at Dummglas. (Who, what, how? We didn't have it, we don't have it, and we won't get it back in)
A shame, but many very good fragrances share this fate.
