Sweetness utopia
Let me start this review by listing the three "-est" of this fragrance:
This is the nicest looking bottle from my collection.
This is the longest lasting fragrance from my collection.
This is the sweetest smelling fragrance from my collection.
Now about the longevity, here are the facts. I sprayed this three times, two on my neck, one on my wrist, at 7 am. Notwithstanding the 1 degree celsius outside temperature, at 8 pm tonight this could still be smelled on me and I don't mean sticking my nose to my skin. By moving while seated, I could catch whiffs of it and when closing in my nose 10 cm away from my wrist, I could sense it still radiating off my skin. Impressive.
Regarding the smell, the opening is certainly not something to die for, but it is not nose turning either. The drydown is what this fragrance is all about. I personally cannot detect a resemblance to "The one" DNA, which can be undoubtedly sensed in the The One Royal Night. This does have similarities to The One Royal Night but in which regards the oriental elements found in that one, not in the dna that one shares with The One EDP.
Without knowing what I was smelling, I would have guessed that this is one of the Stronger With You flankers as it has the same overwhelming sweetness. Not SWY Only though, that's the one I own precisely because of the toned down sweetness. I would say from this point that the comparisons with SWY Oud are fair.
The closest thing I can compare it to from my collection is Code Absolu. Occasion wise I would say they are a complete match. Performance wise, this one makes Code Absolu feel like a summer cologne. Smell wise, this is even sweeter than that which was already the sweetest thing from my collection and which I thought was the most amount of sweetness I could tolerate. I still prefer the sweetness in Code Absolu because of the suede note which balances it out. It took me about a month to get acquainted with that sweetness in Code Absolu and to feel comfortable wearing it. Maybe in time I will become acquainted with this sweetness too, but for now I believe those 100 ml of The One Luminous Night will last me for about a decade. Two sprays, considering the performance and amount of sweetness, would be my recommended dose for this drug.
