My Kind of Ivy
From D S & Durga Sniff Fest:

Wow! If ivy really smelled this good, I wouldn't have cut my calculus classes in those ivy covered buildings in favor of painting the Ohio countryside when I was a teenager. What a fragrance! It utterly seduces the nose, not a single note going wrong. I could smell this forever. It makes me want to stop the sniff-fest and put it all over me. It's a male scent, but no way I'm giving up this dream of a fragrance just because I'm a woman. You guys just have to share. I don't even want to analyze it, just smell! THIS is perfume! THIS is the reason I'm an addict--why I scour reviews, roam perfume counters and haul samples in, why I sometimes do blind buys if the notes beckon. Not sure I would have tried this if I'd read them first instead of smelled. Soil in the base? Hop blossom in the top? Okay, freshness comes from lime and green pepper also in the top. Oakmoss and Galbanum are in the base, too ... okay, wait, forgot what Galbanum smells like, grabbing perfumery kit; oh, it's the beautiful green. As for the middle: ivy, clover and marine notes. These folks are geniuses!

Guys, listen up. When I was young and [content censored by hubby's hmmm], if a guy entered the room wearing this, my nose would have followed him all night, if necessary. Good grief, can't believe I wrote that. See what this fragrance is doing to me? ... Love, love!

It's not Poison Ivy…!
I’m into comics… that’s probably well known here. And Star Wars (but NOT Star Trek :D), Indiana Jones, and all that stuff… *sigh*

So I guess I’m a total nerd and/or freak here! *double sigh*
But at least I’m one who enjoys wearing perfume :D

Therefore, when I heard the name of the fragrance, Boston Ivy, I thought of a foe of Batman,… namely the plant-loving Poison Ivy (who, by the way, looks quite sharp… uh, just saying :D), who is also able to control plants and create huge, carnivorous monster plants that are supposed to eat Batman and other enemies of hers!

And yes, this fragrance has nothing to do with Poison Ivy… on the other hand… there are quite a few plant notes in here, like moss, ivy, clover, etc… … a coincidence?? :DD
No, in truth, it’s about a fragrance that, according to the description, tries to capture the spirit of Boston in the 80s, when apparently there was a lot of ivy and moss growing in the city!

The Fragrance:
The fragrance starts with green notes, and it’s slightly spicy, which I assume comes from the green pepper. At the beginning, the scent is quite soft and gentle, and it also has a fragrance that reminds me of iris.
Even later, the scent remains green and slightly spicy. Whether you can distinctly smell ivy or clover, I can’t say for sure, as I’m not very familiar with these scent notes to recognize them clearly. However, the fragrance does have a slightly maritime quality, as I can detect light, salty notes. They fit well with the scent but are also weak enough not to be overpowering (sometimes I find salt quite piercing in fragrances, just like strong black pepper).
The iris-like scent is still a bit present later, but this could also be due to the combination with ivy and clover. I just can’t really smell the oakmoss, which one would expect to detect, as it was more commonly found in 80s fragrances than today (I suspect), and the scent is dedicated to the 80s of Boston as described earlier.
But anyway, I find the fragrance successful either way.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The projection is quite low, meaning you have to get pretty close to the scent wearer soon after spraying to smell anything at all.
The longevity seems significantly shorter because of this. I would say around five or six hours.

The Bottle:
The rectangular bottle is slightly bulging and filled with yellowish fragrance liquid. The name of the fragrance, as well as the logo, is printed directly on the bottle. The logo is quite elaborate and shows “some” plant (I’m not Poison Ivy, how should I know what kind of plant that is?? :DD). It’s nice, but also a bit simple.

I just noticed that Boston Ivy is a men’s fragrance. Hmm… without the slight spiciness of the green pepper, it could easily pass as unisex. In any case, this fragrance has turned out very nice if one wants to wear something green.

It works very well as a daytime and work fragrance, or also for relaxation on warm spring and summer days. It’s light and therefore not intrusive. To be precise, it’s almost too light and probably needs to be sprayed once or twice more, as both the sillage fades quickly and the associated longevity.

I think it could also be well received because of its looseness, as it’s not a prickly thing like Poison Ivy, who would chase you with thorns and spikes immediately :D

You can definitely give it a try if you’re looking for something casual and, as mentioned, a bit green!

Nature Pure
By participating in the D.S. & Durga Wander Package, I was "forced" by the lovely Fluxit to write my first comment. :-)
For this, I am taking this fragrance, as it has some characteristics that also apply to many other scents from this brand and it has been commented on very little so far, so I don't have to compete with so many other more seasoned commentators with better noses. ;-)

D.S. & Durga is a very interesting brand for me, producing extraordinary fragrances that are actually "ordinary" again, as many try to depict nature and often succeed very well. Other commentators also repeatedly refer to the brand's connection to nature.
It is clearly positioned in the niche market with most of its fragrances and far from today's mainstream. This is mainly because most fragrances are relatively unsweet.

"Boston Ivy" is a prime example of a fragrance from D.S. & Durga.
For me, it is nature pure.
It is made of high quality. It reminds me of green plants, lightly fragrant flowers, ivy, spicy greens.
A maritime reference can certainly be seen, but for me, it is perfectly placed here in the fragrance type green-spicy-fresh.
Sillage and longevity are probably not very strong.
Clearly unisex for me.

Not a fragrance I would wear, which may also be because I generally don't find green fragrances wearable for myself. (That's why I am not rating the fragrance).
But a well-made scent that stands out from the crowd and is still very wearable if you like green fragrances.

Blind purchase with a happy ending
“Boston Ivy” is actually my first blind purchase.

What spoke in favor?

1. The note of ivy, which is also found in “Eau de Lierre” by Diptyque, one of my favorite fragrances,
2. the note of clover, which is included in “Trèfle Pur” by Atelier Cologne, another scent I highly appreciate,
3. the fact that with the closure of Sündhaft in Munich, the only source in Germany will disappear,
4. the accompanying reduced price,
5. the appealing exterior of the fragrances and the overall interesting presentation of the brand itself,
6. the fact that I had already tested several fragrances from D. S. & Durga and found them interesting.

What spoke against?

1. The maritime notes, which are not among my favorites.

All in all, a rather low risk, although the devil is known to be in the details.

A few seconds after application, the whole magic of “Boston Ivy” unfolds: GREEN! Leaf green in abundance! The ivy leaf! Herbaceous, slightly bitter, herbal and very aromatic, underlaid with a nice spiciness, yet also subtly complemented by fresh citrus notes and a slight woodiness, reminiscent a bit of lavender leaves, a dreamy leaf green scent.

After a while, the maritime notes join in, giving the fragrance a saltiness that surprisingly fits well with the leaf green. Then the herbaceousness unfortunately diminishes a bit, but the scent remains very beautiful: still green, fresh, salty, unusual, and refined.

As it develops further, the oak moss becomes more dominant, the fragrance loses a bit of its uniqueness, but not its beauty; it becomes more palatable in the common sense.

Conclusion: It was worth taking a risk, or in other words: No Risk, No Fun!

The sharp contrast between aquatic notes and pepper unfortunately masks much of the light interplay of lime and ivy.

I don't find it green at all.

Wow, it's beautiful! Rain-soaked ivy vines, unripe pears, shelling peas on Mom's balcony, a tin of Gunpowder green tea. Extremely green!

"Best of Greens", soft earth. For me, the scent has a feeling reminiscent of what I experienced with Sumatra Rain. More jungle than meadow.

I really like the brand, but this is one of the weaker ones. Dark green and salty. All sorts of greens, just no flowers,...

All green through and through - first bitter-citrusy green, then sweet-floral-fruity green, finally creamy green.

Very subtle, discreet herbal scent that reminds me a bit of hay infusion. Clover is clearly noticeable. A bit too faint for me.
