Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose
This is not your Grandmother's rose perfume! You know the one; synthetic, over-the-top, stuffy, cloying, allergy inducing, headache causing, choking and cheap smelling. Nope, this is not that! This is a deep, dark, brooding, against-the-grain, thumbing your nose at authority kind of rose perfume. It reminds me of a fully opened garden rose, complete with greenery, that has sat in the vase for too long and is starting to lose it's petals. It has a "rose jam" quality, without any of the sickly, sticky sweetness, therefore elevating it beyond your typical rose perfume.
I admittedly enjoy all of the perfumes in this line but Black and Bourbon have the worst staying power and even though I love them both, I'm miffed when I pay for a perfume or cologne that performs so poorly (which is a shame because they smell fantastic.) I can at least say that Rose's staying power is better than the two aformentioned ones. It definitely lasts longer and radiates from your skin more effectively.
This smells really good on me. Some men wouldn't be so daring as to try a predominanty rose perfume but I am a gender-bender when it comes to scent and I will wear anything that appeals to me, whether it be marketed toward the male or female demographic.
I wore it to work this afternoon and enjoyed catching wiffs of it wafting upward all day long. I love that I smelled "different" and unique and not of a typical men's cologne. Sometimes I crave the unexpected element of surprise.
I'm happy with my purchase of this perfume and will wear it proudly whenever I'm feeling like I want to view the world through rose coloured glasses!

Gorgeous vetiver envelops this gothic rose
This is a velvety red rose wrapped in dense greenery. It's quite linear and not overly complex, but in my estimation, it's perfect. Gorgeous vetiver envelops this gothic rose, and geranium brings an aromatic, fresh-spicy feeling. There is a sense of both bloom and decay. This is not jammy, sweet, or powdery... it is deep and dark, herbal, rich. You can't help but imagine roses creeping up the stone wall of an abandoned castle. It has a kind of dark woodiness that I can't quite place... cedar? And a slightly astringent herbal, gin-like quality. Almost along the vein of rosemary steeped in alcohol.

From the way i've decribed it, you may wonder why I am so enamoured. I can't really quite explain why exactly, but there's just something very natural, dark, and brooding about this scent. It's mysterious and evokes a mythical atmosphere of vampires and dark romance. This is a true unisex wonder. Such a shame that it is discontinued, I will treasure the little that I have.

Blows me away.
This damn perfume evokes so many incredible associations for me...it's poetry. The note list is absolutely dismissable, because there is so much happening here in great nuance.

This is deeply gothic, a dry, spiced, prickly, and slightly bloody (yes, truly) rose. It's even a little musky, subtly sweaty, with the funkiness of green geranium (the geranium scent doesn't come from the blooms, it comes from the thick spongey leaves). Like a man you're attracted to on a chemical level who hasn't bathed. But, also it's *you*, and you smell beyond *pretty*, you smell like raw sexuality. It's both of you, and he's the type who makes rose oil from the hippy market his b*tch, and cares nothing for gendered stereotypes. It's you in an oversized flannel he wore over the weekend, without deodorant. Completely grunge.

But the bloodiness...it took trying Parfums Quartana's Bloodflower to get it. Now, I can't shake it, and I'll be able to detect it in other perfumes too. Someone said "rose oxide" was the culprit for the blood accord (I'm nobody's perfumer, but I believe it). This also must contain it, because it smells oddly similar. Fear not though, because while Bloodflower is like the perfume equivalent of a horror movie (in a good way), Nirvana Rose is something more akin to The Crow - an anti-hero story with gothic overtones. Yes, violent. Yes, dark in tone. But also, deeply romantic and meaningful. A cult classic (as you can see from the reviews). I've had multiple messages (on other platforms) inquiring of any possibility of me selling this, but it's irreplaceable to me, and I couldn't bear to.

This is without a question, one of the most AWESOME perfumes I've ever smelled. It truly speaks to me. It reminds me of more than a few songs, and instead of depressing me, helps me lean into any angst, process things...keep fighting. Keep loving, even if I'm crushed. When roses get f*cked up, they release their finest fragrance.

Gothic Rose
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose is pretty much the quintessential gothic floral fragrance. It is absolutely vampiric. But not the frightening Nosferatu type vampire. This is the hot vampire that lures you in and you don’t care that you’re about to become their meal. Many people get scared away by rose fragrances because rose can come off as something an elderly woman would wear. First of all, Nirvana Rose is completely unisex, maybe almost masculine leaning due to a heavy smoky vetiver base. Second, the rose used in this is a sweet jam like rose that feels both modern and timeless at the same time. Nirvana Rose is not complex, and it won’t change much on your skin throughout the wear and that’s okay, because it is just that good from the beginning.

The presentation for Nirvana Rose matches the scent perfectly. The crimson bottle with gold trim is definitely something you would see on some vixen’s vanity in an old noire film.

It is an absolute outrage that this fragrance was discontinued. It can still be found for reasonable prices on resale websites, but that won’t last forever.

Wet Rose Bush (Complimentary)
I loved Bourbon and Black so much that I blind bought this and Grey when they were discontinued. I love this just as much as Nirvana Black, which was the first fragrance I really fell in love with.
On me, it comes across as very fresh and juicy. The vetiver makes it smell like a rose bush in the rain.

Surprisingly effective dark rose: geranium and a dirty, stinky beauty usually not found outside of niche. Strong sillage.

It's a green wild rose with slight green honey undertones. No amber, powder, musk, or potpourri. Good for layering. I wish more men wore it.

I understand why people call this “gothic rose”. It has a dark red rose feel that is sort of sterile and stony rather than delicious and jammy.

I adore this. I’ve worn it year-round and its wonderful day or night. I was amazed how much it blooms in heat (lightly sprayed). Dark, moody rose.

Dry, peppery rose, camphorous geranium with underlying bed of broom straw. An acquired taste.

Classic soapy rose. Honeyed base. Simple. More soap than wood/spice, but still has depth.

How can a delicate rose smell sinful? Like this! It smells expensive, has a seductive vibe like a niche fragrance that might just shoot you to Nirvana. Strong presence.
