"The capitalism is no longer what it used to be,"
my grandma used to say in the 90s. The context was different, describing it would lead too far here, but the saying fits quite well as a headline.

Karl Marx described the pursuit of profit in "Capital" as follows:

"With corresponding profit, capital becomes bold. Ten percent is safe, and it can be applied everywhere; 20 percent, it becomes lively; 50 percent, positively daring; for 100 percent, it tramples all human laws underfoot; 300 percent, and there is no crime it does not risk, even at the risk of the gallows."

Do they know this at Armani too?

"Armani Privé - Sable Or" was released in 2015 in a limited edition of 1,000 bottles. 100 ml cost 575 euros. Despite the hefty price, the perfume sold out quite quickly. Here on Parfumo, the scent is well-known to many; I keep stumbling across comparisons (and making them myself) about how close another fragrance is to Sable Or. Now and then, you find inquiries in the souk. For my nose, it was indeed a particularly beautiful scent.

With a reissue, one could make a business. Why does Armani refrain from this? A reissue wouldn't be dangerous at all and wouldn't put anyone at the gallows.

It can't be due to the expensive ingredients. "Iris Silver Mist" has significantly more iris to smell and is offered for just over 160 euros per 100 ml.

This only leads me to one conclusion: My grandma was right, capitalism is not what it used to be. At least not at Armani.

Addendum: With this, I do not want to call on Armani to price the reissue at over 500 euros as well.

The Fragrant Blanket.
I had the pleasure of testing this wonderful fragrance. Right from the first spray, a cozy feeling washes over me. It's hard to explain, but at the moment when the mornings are still fresh and often cold, Sable Or feels like a wonderfully fragrant blanket that I carry with me, always nicely draped over my shoulders.
I am enveloped in a sweet and delicate, floral cloud.
The scent is difficult for me to break down into its components, but I can immediately recognize the iris in a pleasant way, just like the blend of vanilla and tonka bean. It's as if you are walking down a street on a sunny day and passing by a candy store that is right next to a small quaint flower shop, which only has a limited selection of flowers, and both have their windows slightly ajar, allowing this scent to mix with that of a warm summer day. Beautiful and very appealing, for both genders.
The warmer it gets, the more comforting it becomes.
I would love to own it.

The Sense and Nonsense of Limited Edition Fragrances
I really like the Armani Privé line; not only do I own Figuier Eden and Cuir Noir, but I also enjoy several others from the niche branch of the Milan fashion house very much… However, I can't afford everything - especially not the annually released, limited to 1,000 bottles luxury Privés.
I've been with Parfumo for a year now, and neither at the beginning nor before would I have ever considered engaging with a perfume in this price range. That has changed now, and besides the aforementioned affinity for the brand, it is also due to my good experiences with Nuances and Ombre & Lumiere.
To my surprise, this year two luxury fragrances were launched simultaneously. O.k., they don't smell similar; the Fumé leans towards a fresh-smoky scent, while the Sable Or is soft-warm-powdery.
But one has to wonder what the point is. For example, anyone who collects these luxury fragrances has to fork out 1,100 euros instead of 550 or make a choice. Nevertheless, I wasn't entirely averse to snagging one of these super-trouper bottles.
But to be honest, I hate having to make decisions under time pressure - but that's just how it is with limited fragrances (and it seems to be that way?!?) So should I just stay away from it? …it's just annoying if you end up liking it later! It's your own fault if you didn't grab it!!
So I kept going back to the truly charming, friendly, and patient ladies at Armani in KaDeWe, testing and testing - Sable on the left, Fumé on the right. Which one should it be? Buying both is definitely out of the question. Sometimes one was my favorite, sometimes the other. Then it got serious all of a sudden, as there were only two bottles of Sable Or left. So I tried it one last time and sprayed it rather discreetly. The saleswoman said, "Feel free to spray yourself properly," but I replied that I would be working in the office and wouldn't be alone there. I arrived at work beaming with joy, and my colleague had a fit. All windows and doors were thrown open - with the remark that it was unbearable. To restore office peace, I went to the sink and washed off the scent as best as I could.
So I have to give it to the fragrance: it is very potent; one or two spritzes are completely sufficient. The scent is a knockout - not just in terms of sillage. It is excellently composed; you don't smell something like this every day. It is round and full - I don't know how else to describe it, maybe "rich"? That's how it comes across to me - almost too rich. And I increasingly understand commentators on Parfumo when they say they miss the edges and corners. This applies to me with Sable Or. Additionally, I find the mineral note somewhat bothersome, which could also be described as desert sand; it reminds me of theater props. A heavy powdery note mixed with a little sweat, reminiscent of humanity, of life. Not bad, but not everyone wants to smell like that. Vanilla and benzoin are well perceptible; I perceive the iris as rather subdued. Until now, it has been the dominant ingredient in the previous luxury Privés.
After several tests, I had to sadly conclude that this is not MY fragrance - and it should have been for the proud price. I really don't care if there are only 999 more of these on this earth - or 999,999. The fragrance has to suit me, and I have to suit it - then I am happy to spend more money. In this case, I saved a lot of money, as neither of them became the one for me.

Iris in classical noble form. Benzoin conteracts slight lipstick touch. The sweetness is (pleasantly) discreet.
An (Iris) pleasure!

Fascinating hourglass.
The fine grains of iris/tonka fall steadily and gently downwards. In the end, you turn it again.

The wonderful iris here is maritime, gourmand, and lipstick-like. All at the same time and in a very elegant way.
