Hello there :)
Today I'm here to talk about a Dior Privée fragrance, namely Mitzah. Now, one might first wonder what this somewhat oddly sounding name means, in case one has never heard it before. Well… Mitzah, or more precisely Mitzah Bricard, was one of the most influential women in Christian Dior's life. She became his source of inspiration, so she was his muse, who was among other things responsible for the fragrance name "Miss Dior."
So, since Christian Dior held this woman in high regard, he named one of the fragrances after her (or rather, the fragrance was named by Demachy! Thanks for the tip, Etamher!), which also made it a women's fragrance instead of being unisex like most fragrances in this line. Which is actually good, otherwise this fragrance would probably have been one of those scents I could have smelled when a salesperson insisted on showing me the Dior Privée fragrances. What would have been so bad about sniffing it, you ask?
Well,… HE sprayed various fragrances from this line on HIMSELF, and I was supposed to smell these fragrances on HIM… and, well,… I really don't like sniffing other guys, aaaargh!!!
Completely different from when I get to sniff around you ladies… uh… well… :DD
And besides that, I prefer to try a fragrance on myself :D
Anyway, let’s get started with the scent description!
The Scent:
At first, I smell resinous incense, a lot of patchouli, sweet-spicy notes, which I assume come from labdanum and honey, as well as light roses.
A little later, the scent becomes spicier and also seems a bit drier. There are still sweet notes from the honey, now also a bit of cinnamon, and earthy patchouli. The mentioned dryness reminds me somewhat of straw flowers, at least a little. However, the dry note doesn’t last too long, as the resinous notes soon radiate stronger and make the scent feel airier, but also softer.
Oh yes, I haven’t been able to detect coriander so far. Of course, I find that quite good, but fans of this devil's herb might be slightly disappointed :D
The sweetness of the scent later smells more and more like amber, as the sweet scent loses a bit of its spiciness and becomes "brighter," although the scent itself remains spicy, argh, this is a bit difficult to describe, and I hope you understand what I mean. These spicy notes combine with the incense to create a wonderful scent that smells great with the amber. There’s also a pinch of rose. In the later base, in my opinion, amber is the strongest scent note, while the spicy notes gradually fade away, but the resinous scents remain, keeping the fragrance soft and somehow even a bit creamy at the end.
The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is quite good; one (or actually, one woman!) is enveloped in a nice cloud of fragrance and radiates it well, so it can be easily detected by many without having to get too close.
The longevity is also very good, as the scent smells great from morning to evening. Twelve to fourteen hours are definitely achievable.
The Bottle:
Oh yes, the bottle. My opinion on the bottles from this fragrance line is probably not favored by most. Sure, the bottles are incredibly high-quality, no question, but they are just too minimalist for me… The bottles are simply cylindrical, which is still okay. But especially the label, which is just white and shows the fragrance name without any frills and doesn’t even have a frame or anything, seems WAY too simple to me, almost as if the bottle were an oversized sample tube and someone had printed and stuck the fragrance name on it… well… The cap at least is nicely magnetic and shows Dior's logo on the top. So it's still just okay, but for me, there are definitely much prettier bottles, even among the exclusive fragrances of a brand (like those from Armani!).
So, the fragrance has turned out quite nice. Well, actually more than quite nice, because especially later it smells really great. At first, it’s a bit too patchouli-heavy for me personally, but then it becomes softer, spicier-sweet, and really smells wonderful.
It has something oriental-elegant about it, and in my opinion, it fits especially well for going out in the evening, preferably on cooler autumn days or winter. It also has (at least at first) something mature about it, without being old-fashioned. A test is definitely worth it, but as I said, you should let the fragrance develop for a little while before making your judgment, as it smells significantly better later than at the beginning.
And try to spray the fragrance on yourself when testing, otherwise you’ll have to sniff a complete stranger's scent like I did, who is also quite enthusiastic about the fragrances and keeps spraying them on himself, causing all the scents to mix since they are layered… :DD
That’s it for today, and I wish everyone a nice evening :)
