Yawn...
I wouldn’t say that Fève Delicieuse (“delicious bean”, or in North-Center Italian slang, “delicious d*ck”) smells completely horrid, but it’s really almost there. It doesn’t really “smell Dior”, and surely not “Collection Privée”. Not that the rest of the line was breath-taking, but Fève is basically nothing different quality-wise and overall concept-wise from the cheapest Oriental-gourmand ranges of fragrances and grooming products sold in drugstores or supermarkets. Stuff like Italian brands I coloniali, or Tesori d’Oriente - but way below Les Nereides or L’Erbolario, to give you a rough idea of how cheap this is. Imagine that kind of stuff blended with some sort of clumsy imitative Mugler-esque kind of “allure”, sort of echoing some A*Men flankers but without that consistency and playfulness (and they cost half of this anyway).

Basically Fève Delicieuse is a thick, annoyingly flat and cloyingly artificial Oriental-gourmand candy of vanilla, amber, tonka, cedar, powdery-caramel and spicy notes tinged with a tame hint of smoke and some pleasant sort of earthy-vegetable suble nuances, which are quite nondescript but help in lowering the diabete-inducing ratio of sweetness and represent the only sparkle of interest in this disgraceful bucket of dullness. There is basically no evolution and no particular “twists”, just a sticky slap of melted toffee candies laying on your skin, decreasing in power as hours pass – thus becoming more pleasant. Sweetness is the main and most feature of Fève Delicieuse: mediocre, cheap, unrealistic, alienating sweetness, truly comparable with any low-brow drugstore gourmand scent for teenagers. I was not the most enthusiastic fan of the rest of the “Collection Privée” collection apart from Leather Oud, but still I clearly got a sense of decent quality, complexity and craft among the others – or at least, some efforts for that. To this extent Fève Delicieuse is an astonishing ugly duckling among them (minus the happy ending), since it smells not only cheap, but also completely uninspired, simplistic, tired, a more than generic “déja-vu” with a crazy price tag and no reasons to exist. If you’re a fan of The Office US, then I’m Michael and this is my Toby.

Delicious Bean Indeed
For lovers of vanilla and caramel, this perfume will hit the spot. It is rich, sweet and sticky, but thank God, the composition is well-blended and not overwhelming, otherwise this could have been a cloying disaster. It still might be too much for some so you gotta love your gourmands if you want to love this delicious bean.

Of course, tonka is the star. It reminds me of the main note in Tonka Imperiale. The Dior is much more vanilla-centered though. Overall a wonderful gourmand composition with good sillage and average lasting power. For lovers of Mitzah, this is a suitable alternative as well.

Heavenly!
It is one of the first fragrances I liked from the niche world. For me it smells like a milky dessert (for Example Pudding) with cinnamon. Not too complicated but special, deep, luxurious. I find it better in cold weather or in fall during night. On my skin lasts long. It is perfect also for the “me” nights, after a long shower watching TV or reading a book.

Holiday Spiced Eggnog
Smells somewhat like a warm spiced eggnog to me, with a touch of herbal lavender and that airy lift typical of jasmine. My nose hardly picks up any mint, it's not close to what I would consider medicinal. A warm creamy vanilla and chocolate, dusted with a melange of holiday spices, hints of nuttiness and cherry flavoring. Reminiscent of Guerlain Tonka Imperiale if you replaced the green facets with cocoa. The cherry gets stronger as it dries down. Moderate projection for 4-6hr, longevity 12hr+.

Close Protection Unit of a tonka bean
I don’t require Fève Délicieuse by Dior to do anything more than it does, which is to step between me and this cold, cold world. In the late nineties, I worked for an American Ambassador in a hotly disputed piece of land straddling two parts of post-war Bosnia, and I quickly got used to his Close Protection Unit – made up of four surly and burly ex-British army officers (who grunted rather than spoke) – entering the room before he did, scanning for danger, barking at each other in code, and generally out Jason Stratham-ing Jason Stratham. You get the picture. When I visited the same Ambassador in DC a few years later, he told me that when he returned to America, it took him at least half a year to stop pausing before a door to let his CPU team case the joint. “Oh for f*k’s sake, Bill, it’s only the laundry room,” his wife would have to remind him.

Fève Délicieuse is built like a proverbial brick sh*thouse. Its opening is a clenched fist of wet, bitter herbs (lavender, mint) twisting things into a black licorice shape, not a million miles away from the burnt coffee-herb opening of old Eau Noire (also Dior). But this is just a teaser, presaging the scent’s main act of sour cherry jam stirred into an almond custard so thicc and muscular that your spoon is guaranteed to stand up in it. The tonka bean here smells like vanilla if vanilla was less like ice cream and more like a dusky, tobacco-stained corduroy carpet. It’s the ‘bit of rough’ to your parent’s definition of ‘a nice boy’.

Like the CPU guys, I admire its unrelenting brute strength. This is a scent that wraps itself securely around your skin and beds down for the long haul, emanating wafts of burnt almond at frequent intervals to ward off harm. But – and here’s the kicker – Fève Délicieuse is a scent with zero art and even less conversation. Its whole point is its power. It’s Charles Atlas dragging a 145,000-pound train up a track. However, I figure it’s time for me to stop feeling guilty about owning perfumes whose sole function in my collection is to give me strength when I’m feeling vulnerable. Because while Fève Délicieuse sure isn’t art, or perhaps even that good, its thick-fingered, tattooed hand at the small of my back is what pushes me gently forward when I hesitate. And boy, does it give me comfort to know it’s there.

One of the better releases from Maison Dior.I had a bottle pre reformulation and loved it. Current edition is more soft with less sillage :(

Gourmand, sweet, spicy, powdery, creamy. In the opening, I get cocoa. Then tonka and some freshness, maybe from the rose. Vanilla drydown.

An invitation of sweet aromas with oriental undertones, still one of the best gourmands on the market,a paradise of tonka, caramel, vanilla.

Very seductive scent. Good for date nights. Smells unique and expensive, also notes are balanced and polished very well. Blind buy worthy!

I had high expectations for this one (just look at the notes!), but I just couldn't stop thinking all I can smell is baby powder.

Too heavy for me personally. The caramel note is too strong, but this smells nice on paper

Sublime gourmand, tonka, vanilla, cacao and praline give you that milky dessert quality. I feel a subtle amber accord which is great.

A rather linear, yet warm and creamy, spicy-sweet Oriental Gourmand, balanced by a gentle spicy green-earthy opening. Not too heavy. Unisex!
