Violet Vetiver
On such days, one simultaneously hates and loves their hobby. On one hand, you are glad to have found a gem that not many know yet. On the other hand, you are sad that the fragrance has been discontinued, probably never to be discovered and loved by a great many people, and its prices will continue to rise. But that is the way of our fragrance world. Often, weak perfumes achieve real success and decades of longevity, while other, quieter diamonds are cut far too early. This Night of the Senses (?) deserved much more attention and perhaps came at the wrong time in a beautiful but inappropriate bottle.
From the artistic prison-brother bottle comes a truly astonishing scent that I, as a vetiver fan, find extremely appealing. No vetiver has been so dark and spicy since Encre Noir - at least in the designer market. And it is also quite similar to black ink in general, which can certainly be taken as a compliment. I see it as a blend of the Lalique masterpiece and Fahrenheit - and at the same time, it is unique enough that no thoughts of imitation arise at any point. Whether as an office scent, signature, or indeed for evenings, for example in summer - Nuit de Sens will surely not disappoint. I clearly name autumn as the perfect season, but it is versatile due to its shy, dark nature. Alongside the earthy vetiver and the Fahrenheit violet, musk, leather, and a triple dose of pepper make their presence felt. A little secret weapon, from which one should never expect miraculous things and that should never reach an unattainable legendary status through its setting (like Yohji Homme) - but still, the fragrance simply delivers.
Bottle: an elegant, heavy thug - criminally beautiful.
Sillage: so close to the body that it is not just a night scent - the name is misleading.
Longevity: unfortunately, this dark seducer also runs out of steam too quickly here - 4-5 hours.
Conclusion: if you want to experience pepper & vetiver in a different way and count them among your top 5 favorite fragrance notes, you should definitely check the electronic bay - you can still find it there from time to time. On the other hand, an Encre Noir also fulfills (cheaper) almost everything...
