"It wasn't all bad" ;-)
Recently, while sitting with my mother and going through samples and "philodufting" (thank you dear Michelangela for this lovely neologism!), she was reminded of her first own fragrance, which was called "Chypre." She didn't remember much more. So, I quickly researched on Parfumo and lo and behold, it could only be "Chypre" by Florena. Her father - obviously already a friend of beautiful scents - brought her first perfume from the "city." In the early 50s, shortly after the war, perfume was quite an unnecessary luxury in the young GDR - yet the simple shoemaker bought his daughter such a "useless" luxury. This luxury, which even the common people could now afford, was also a symbol of the dawn of a new era, where there was still hope that a fairer future would be built in the eastern part of Germany. At that time, it was still impossible to foresee that this hope would not be fulfilled. Thus, the memory of the fragrance is also intertwined with the memory of a time when the bloom of youth coincided with the general spirit of renewal.
My mother can no longer describe the scent, except that she liked it very much back then and was proud of owning it. She had never heard of fragrance families or the meaning of the term "Chypre" until now. But it must have been a "Chypre" scent, as even today "Mystere" and "Aromatics elixier" are among her absolute favorite fragrances.
It's wonderful that thanks to Parfumo we were able to revive and verbalize the memory of a long-forgotten fragrance.
