Peach, Rice Powder, and Sake... I miss you.

Just found a tiny bottle of this and I remain devastated that it was discontinued. This was the first fragrance I found that I felt confident declaring my signature scent Notes of powdery rice, sake, bright peach, and ginger... even a touch of lychee to my nose, although it may have just been the combination of fruit and florals. After wearing off, it leaves the most alluring musky dry-down that remains close to the skin and has you sniffing your wrist all day. Unfortunately my remaining bottle has turned and lost most of the bright top notes, leaving behind baby powder in its wake, so it's time to say goodbye.

Peach-flavored rice wine

Before purchasing, I sampled both the foaming bath and the EdP. Sake is quite lovely and fresh! The peach really comes through for me, and it is sweet but not overly so. Somehow it reminds me of a summer version of Burberry Woman (original), probably due to the peach. Fresh is much lighter & brighter than any peach, apricot or osmanthus fragrance I own. If you like peaches, this is a must try.

Before putting Fresh Sake on want list, I did side-by-side tests of Sake and Peau de Peche by Keiko Mecheri and L Lamb by Gwen Stephani, both of which had the qualities that I was looking for in my next fragrance purchase. Peau de Peche is a simpler, whisper of a scent compared to Fresh Sake. L Lamb is more complex, but unfortunately it is overly synthetic. On the other hand, Fresh Sake doesn't disappoint. The ingredients seem on par with better fragrances in the niche market. In addition, Sake is quite unique and can stretch across all seasons.

Fresh Sake is a lovely fragrance that is more feminine than masculine & not really a unisex scent. I highly recommend it for sampling, but only blind buying if the price is right.

Sui Generis Aromatic Chypre

Fresh SAKE offers another bright and shiny, uplifting opening from this house. I've never smelled anything quite like this before. I would not call this composition a fruity floral so much as an aromatic chypre of sorts. It's definitely far less sweet than STRAWBERRY FLOWERS and more complex and unisex and less floral than PINK JASMINE.

The assertive citrus opening subsides within a couple of minutes, giving way to what another reviewer identified as a fruity chypre similar to DECI DELA, and I definitely see her point. The texture here, more than the specific notes, strikes me as that of a chypre. It must be the ginger which makes this creation seem more unisex than feminine to me. The lotus, too, may contribute to the cologne-y feeling in the opening, though the overall longevity is that of an eau de parfum, with the chypre aspect lasting far longer than the aromatic opening.

Anyway, I like it, though it's weird in that it doesn't really fit in any of the standard categories. SAKE is fresh and natural smelling, as I've come to expect from this house, and worth a sniff by anyone, since it really is something out of the ordinary. Those who mourned the discontinuation of DECI DELA will surely welcome the drydown of SAKE!
