A perfume with no presence
I should have been suspect of a perfume with no online presence. Even the worst offenders in the perfume world have an online presence—who hasn’t heard about Secretions Magnifique? Angel, anyone? But this one has no reviews written, no blurbs mentioning it in passing, nothing. I thought it had something to do with its lack of promotion or its inability to gain cult status. But really, nothing? Out of curiosity I ordered it blindly to see why this amber scent was a ghost in the perfume world.

It’s a ghost because it is not memorable or even good. It’s not horrible but it is screechy and cloying. It begins with a cacophony of canned room spray florals, a vague amber, and an orange disinfectant. As it dries down it remains a cacophony of canned room spray florals, a vague powdery amber, and a slightly muted orange disinfectant. Not much changes from first spray to last wisps of the drydown, but I will say longevity is stellar here.

I remember back in the 1990s and early 2000s I thought I hated amber, with few exceptions. Smelling Madly reminded me of why I thought I hated amber. I thought ambers were claustrophobic-inducing saccharine bombs fluffed up with genetically modified flowers. Perfumes like Madly misinformed me about ambers and how great they can be.

I really don’t get any joy from writing negative reviews so I would ask anyone curious about this scent to take my review with a grain of salt. On the bright side, this was very affordable. If curiosity gets the best of you the way it got me then there’s no financial ramification for taking the plunge. It is my hope that this was a case of body chemistry gone horribly awry. That, or now I know why this has no online and/or retail presence.
