First of all, a thank you to Timekeeper, who recommended the new Givenchy to me, based on my preference for Dior Homme Intense.
Let's start at the very beginning. I had been seeing the new Givenchy advertised repeatedly for some time. My first thoughts were, "the next horse that will be beaten to death."
Actually, I didn't want to try it, although I did quite like the individual accords.
After the first spray, memories of that dark bar in London, where I lingered over a decade ago, came rushing back.
Heavy wooden furniture, a 12-year-old whiskey aged in a bourbon barrel in my glass, and at the next table, a conversation about the rural estates one owns.
A cozy atmosphere spread back then.
I can clearly perceive whiskey, benzoin, lily, cedar, as well as creamy vanilla accords and very subtle patchouli here.
I can understand the comparisons to Dior through wood, iris, and the sweet/chocolatey creaminess - however, this one is more harmonious and balanced.
It envelops the wearer with its warm aura.
It is always present - but never intrusive...
It knows how to play with its charm - without burning itself...
