Great release for DHP fans
I am lucky enough to be able to enjoy this perfume quite fast after its release and I can say that I smiling and keep sniffing my wrist all the time since I sprayed it this morning.

It starts very pleasant and familiar, with iris, bergamot and a slight boozy note .. the familiarity comes from the Florentine Iris present in DHP, which has a similar opening. This is for my nose almost identical with DIOR Homme Intense 2017, pre-reformulation version .. less powerful of course, but as intense and beautiful.

The chestnut and the benzoin, are shy and hide behind the multiple Iris notes but keep the character of the perfume quite romantic and classy. I do not smell any vetiver but there is a beautiful high quality cedar note in the dry down, making it even more classier if that can be possible.

After about 20-30 min it becomes a very addictive smell (if you like LVMH Iris scents) which reminds me very much of DHP without the stinky leather, which to be honest it´s a total no go for me.

This is far from a "new" release, but very close to DIOR Homme I/P pre-Reformulation scent DNA. As we know, Givenchy and DIOR are both part of LVMH so for me this is a very smart move from them .. to take over the perfume world with DHP as the Original bad boy, and create a well behaved brother called Réserve Privée and make it a Givenchy.

For the price, quality and smell .. this is a 9/10 creation. 1 point goes off because it is a copy paste DHP without the leather.

A Gentleman's Necessity
We all have our own image of what a gentleman should look like. Confident, well-spoken, kind, and well-mannered. Draped in a flawlessly tailored navy suit, perfectly over his broad shoulders; a crisp white shirt, paired with a silk tie that adds a sharp contrast, and polished leather shoes that complete the ensemble. Every detail is immaculate - except, what good is elegance without the right scent? That's where Gentleman Givenchy Réserve Privée comes into play.

The opening is immediately sharply boozy, with a hint of crisp bergamot, which fades away pretty fast. You then are met with a smooth dose of ambery sweetness and a nutty, creamy chestnut accord, which is beautifully balanced with the iris - arguably the star of the show. Similarly to Dior Homme Intense (2011) and Valentino Uomo Intense , the iris note brings a very powdery feel to the fragrance, and it also resembles lipstick in one way or another. I've seen many say that they also get baby powder, to which I won't object. At this point, you'll either love it or hate it. I, for one, like it, as it is not too powdery and just nicely blended with the other notes. But still, it could've benefitted from a little more smoothness. As the fragrance dries down, its sweetness is toned down a bit, and the base notes of vetiver and patchouli give it a slightly drier and warmer feel, although the vetiver is rather subdued. It's a pleasant, refined and mature scent, with that touch of sophistication of a true gentleman. However, here it is evidently done in a mass-appealing fashion, and as things dry down, you're left with nothing really special anymore. Just a sweet patchouli with a creamy undertone, as well as remaining powderiness from the iris and ambery warmth.

There are some issues here, however, and those are regarding performance. On my skin, Gentleman Réserve Privée lasted for about 6, maybe 7 hours, which is not exactly great for a fragrance of this kind. However, I do have a pretty poor history when it comes to fragrances and their longevity on my skin, so I guess I just have a bad skin chemistry. Nevertheless, I haven't heard other reviewers praise Réserve Privée for its excellent longevity. And same goes for the projection. For the first two hours, it was alright, maybe about a foot of projection. But afterwards, it would settle very closely to the skin. I asked a couple of friends if they could smell it on me, and unless they shoved their nose on my wrist/neck, they could barely sense it. So it's unfortunate that such a nice fragrance has such poor performance. In this case, you can spray anywhere from 6-8 sprays, but do test it first with fewer sprays; maybe you're one of the few lucky people who's skin chemistry works well with Réserve Privée.

For occasions, it's pretty self-explanatory. Anywhere from a dressed-up event, like a wedding or a work setting, Gentleman Givenchy Réserve Privée will fit in the vibe just right. It's the fragrance to wear when you truly want to feel like a gentleman, when you want to leave that nice impression of a confident, mature and classy person (which you probably aren't, you just want to be perceived like that).

Unfortunately, given its poor projection and not stellar longevity, it won't be easy getting people to notice you. But in the end, this is not a clubbing fragrance. This is not a fragrance that is made to get people's attention from 5 feet away. Subtlety is another trait of a true gentleman, and a subtle, pleasing scent is what you're looking for, not an intoxicating and extremely powerful scent bomb. While you might get some better performance with Dior Homme Intense (2011) or Valentino Uomo Intense , I believe that Gentleman Givenchy Réserve Privée is well-worth considering and trying if you want that one fragrance that once you put it on, you'll feel like the gentleman you wish you were.

Iris And Whisky Maketh The Gentlemen
Now this smells very nice indeed with the fresh iris in the opening that soon has chocolate facets. The whisky adds a nice subtle dimension to the scent and pairs well with the chocolate tinged Iris.

As time moves forward the scent becomes woody and nutty from the chestnut. Here it begins to get sweeter and powdery with what smells like a hint of caramel melded with the woods.

I get several hour longevity on the skin and very average projection. Within arms length for the first hour dropping to within half a arms length after. It is a scent that stays close to you.

All in all a delight!

Well. Here it is.
This fragrance. It's everything. Beautiful, sexy, dark, alluring, one would even say unisex (makeup purse vibe, maybe more swanky leather vibe from the iris) but don't let that deter you. This stuff is the best scent I've smelled in years. When you wear this, men will be jealous of you. Women will just make a face like you owe them something THEY NEED. This stuff is ALLURING, for sure. You want to make someone look your way? Look no further...

Sweet, boozy, but a powdery nod to DHP
Finally sampling one of the most recent releases from Givenchy, Gentleman Eau de Parfum Reserve Privee, that’s been understandably getting a lot of positive attention. I’m not deeply familiar with Givenchy in general nor the expansive Gentleman line but I wanted to try this, and I’m glad I did. It smells of a cross between ambery whiskey and powdery leather, and no doubt due to the latter, draws comparisons to Dior Homme Parfum, something that occurred to me upon first spray.

I actually sold my bottle of DHP years ago, since, although it was a great fragrance, its sharp powdery quality meant that I didn’t reach for it often. GEDPRP partially addresses that by being noticeably more blended with a sweet and boozy quality, and a fraction of the powdery leather side of DHP.

It is, in this way, the best of both worlds, a nod to the sweet while still having some of the powder, and it’s achieved harmoniously. I’m quite pleased with it and would consider buying a bottle, as it also performs pretty well. Also, I can see how it would satisfy some DHP fans while being a bit easier to wear and more fashionable, with its resinous/sweet/boozy side, and more toward the mainstream, while still smelling special, and carefully put together.

It’s priced at $106/85 for 100/60ml, and is sold on the Givenchy website as well as various retailers.

Sweet, ambery, refined, with a powdery lipstick-like iris note. A true gentleman's perfume. Longevity and projection aren't impressive, tho

A great mix of Iris, Cedar and Benzoin. Like DHP but without the stinky leather. It is classy, boozy and will go great for office or dates.

Close to the OG but with a nutty chocolate smell which perfects the DNA in my opinion. I would say it goes more in the Valentino direction

So close to the older 75ml DHP bottles, I could not believe it. Evolves into Gentelman with soft boozy vanillin base, really good. Price ok

◄ (M2) Sweeter/more cloying than VUI'16 + more restrictive—date night frag vibe. Good longevity, v-low projection. BFM w/o smelling drunk.
