Fig Scent Straightforward
Over Easter, we were in Porto Venere. A small, medieval coastal town in Liguria with many cliffs, caves accessible from the sea, colorful houses, and narrow streets. In one of these really narrow alleys, there was a handbag-sized boutique from Gocce di Byron with a few testers in front of the shop.
Quickly sniffing through, all the scents seemed quite straightforward to me: pepper, vanilla, and then one with fruity sweetness: Guvano. (Apparently, that’s a nudist beach nearby, but it doesn’t have much to do with the scent.)
By the way, my threshold for sweetness is very low. If sweetness appears in the scent notes, I translate it as "TOO sweet" just to be safe. Therefore, the top note on paper was quite sweet for me; others would probably say fruity.
In a more detailed test at home, I found the scent to be very green and clear and less sweet. As it develops, musk and sandalwood with a light, pleasant cleanliness also come into play, but not so much that it would take away from the clarity. The closer you get with your nose, the more you smell fig leaves; from a distance, it smells fruitier.
My conclusion is green-straightforward fig, which I will surely wear from time to time in the warmer spring and summer.
