White Ginger
There are five white florals which represent Hawaiian (or Pacific Islands) scent at its most unctuous, luscious and luxurious: Tuberose, Pikake (Jasmine), Tiare (Gardenia), Plumeria (Frangipani) and the White Ginger Lily.
The latter is barely represented in the world of perfume, which is surprising, given its outstanding aroma. There are a few oils out there and soliflores from Avon and Bourbon French. The best of the lot is the sadly discontinued White Ginger from Royal Hawaiian Perfumes.
It is quite concentrated, even in the cologne version, so a tiny dab goes a long way.
It is most reminiscent to me of the suntan lotions from the 1940s and 1950s, which were fragranced by gardenia, jasmine, and it would seem white ginger. There is something so elevating in the evocation of sun, sand and soft, warm breezes which this scent envelops you with. It is truly an outstanding soilflore and I highly recommend it.
You can still find it on the internet, thank goodness. I recently found a large bottle of the cologne that was quite affordable. Very worth seeking out if you are a fan of the lush white floral family.
