2019 and still dreaming of oldschool
So Americans dream of oldschool scents? This fragrance is more what I expected from "A Man's Cologne". Sure, he's not as multi-layered as the "real" oldschoolers. But nevertheless, it still hits in exactly the same, old-fashioned, damp-green-earthly direction. For me personally a No-Go, but I do not want to get too close to the lovers of such fragrances. :)

The scent starts partly Mediterranean: moist leaves and a few citrus fruits surround you. All this in fresh and tart and on something smooth, not too earthy cellary patch stored. Nevertheless - somehow not so friendly, rather strict and not inviting.
It smells just the same for the next few hours, before the fragrance loses its moist aura and somehow goes in a partly plastic, musty-smooth-moss direction. And then the scent is no longer bitter.

Even if the first part of the fragrance is not mine, it had a certain substance and character. After that, he's trivial and meaningless. Like my comment. :o)

The fragrance lasts a good 7 hours on my skin, with a rather moderate, body-hugging sillage (4-5 points).

Unisex? Not to my taste. Rather a masculine scent, which doesn't mean that women aren't allowed to wear it.

To oldschool lovers: If you're looking for an oldschool scent in a somewhat reduced version, you might like it, especially if you like it green and bitter. Otherwise nothing really escapes you here, because (at least) I have already met some similar scents.

Many thanks to Don for the Gravel hiking package. I have complied with his request and have written a comment on this fragrance. That's why I'm sorry if the comment is too short. :o)

Back at the Yukon...
...also became part of the "American" Dream. During the economic crisis around 1896, many sought their fortune and gold in the Klondike region. Quite a few were successful. If anyone is interested: Since then, until today, about 560 tons of gold have been mined there.
But what does gold have to do with the Gravel?
The start has something golden in it for me. A beautiful tangy-fresh, cool, mineral citric, underpinned with a soft fruity orange note, which does not bring any sweetness and lasts surprisingly long. Almost as if you were standing in the cold water of the Klondike River early in the morning mining for gold. When the sun comes out later, jasmine makes its way into the fragrance, which gives a little warmth and makes the fragrance softer. Lavender is added a little later, but is more in the background without dominating but contributes its balanced spice to the fragrance.
Towards the base American Dream becomes darker with patchouli, a little vetiever and a hint of moss. This is how the shore must smell when it warms up in the sun.
The simple bottle with the river pebbles fits perfectly to this scenery.
Durability and Sillage are, as usual with Gravel, good.
I like American Dream best out of the line. Altogether a very harmonious, round, balanced fragrance, which fits to every occasion and never seems intrusive.

It was once in America - The roaring tweenties (But what does Leo Di Caprio have to do with it?)
AMERICA 1920, the First World War is over, the economy is running at full speed and the American population is more eager to buy than ever before. The automotive sector is growing, hardly anyone is without a job, which of course increases spending on consumer goods. For many people, the "American Dream" - from dishwasher to millionaire - is not just a dream, it is becoming reality.

GRAVEL has captured this America of the 20's, preserved in a perfection that seeks its peers. It should be noted that the perfume does not smell like dishwasher, but clearly represents the end of the path up the career ladder. He smells of success, glamour and glory, hot sleds, light girls, cigar rooms and thick dollar stacks. I like to draw another cinematic comparison out of my pocket: nobody could wear the scent better than Leonardo Di Caprio in "Wolf of Wallstreet"!

BUT to the scent itself. I think it's the American counterpart to the scents of Penhaligon's, I have "The Tragedy of Lord Georg" in mind. Although they do not smell identical, they share this typical Barbershop touch - as already mentioned! But this one is finer, rounder and more flattering. Although I have to say that I can't go with the above fragrance. I almost never notice it in flowery citric. It goes for me rather in the direction of woody-creamy/bumy-creamy. Those who expect the citric will be disappointed. As a result, it is quite creamy and soapy and lies gently on the skin. The course is relatively straight-lined, only towards the end it becomes softer and gentler. Especially lavender and vetiver form a great fragrance pair and are balanced composed. The durability of American Dream is about 6-8 hours and the Sillage is about 3 hours well perceptible and then slowly decomposes. The bottle is extra class, it contains really small stones, which make it appear valuable and noble. Altogether it reminds a little of hotel hand soap from the early 20th century

So WHO is looking for a great autumn scent and just liked Penhaligons, will find it here. You get a soapy-creamy fragrance composition of the extra class with solid performance. In addition, it is suitable for those who like to wear a shirt, in fact, it does not fit very well with the casual look. Also I would see him - although I am rather young - on a man 40+. But that's for everyone to decide. Last but not least, I'd like to say something about the price, this one is perfectly ok with 150 Euro for 100ml, just looking at his English brother ;)

Great night for you,
Test the absolutely

Creamy, almost nutty-green lavender with an awesome, sharp petitgrain opening. Warm skin vibes in the base and a touch of sweetness. Solid.
