Smoldering Winter Crown
I’ve lived with my bottle for a few years now, not the tiger‑striped showpiece but the one studded with 158 Swarovski crystals that catch the light like tiny embers. Every time I reach for it, it feels like opening a velvet‑lined drawer of memories.

I haven’t ventured into the rest of the collection yet but Emerald Reign has always carried a quiet, assured masculinity on my skin. It moves like a dark amber river, thick and warm, with flashes of fruit and spice glinting beneath the surface. Sometimes it drifts into a muted, woody hush, a kind of shadowed calm and that’s when it shines the most, especially when the air outside turns cold and the world feels sharper.

Its presence is undeniable. Projection rolls out in slow, confident waves and even as someone who prefers a gentle hand on the sprayer, one or two mists are enough to fill a room with its glow. It’s powerful without shouting, regal without trying, and it lingers long after I’ve forgotten I’m wearing it.

Emerald Reign feels less like a fragrance and more like a winter companion: steady, smoldering and beautifully composed.

Lady, you just smell so nice!
I went to the shoe maker today. A place where notes of glue, chemicals, and leather dominate. And once I crossed the door the owner looked at me, smiled and said: lady, you smell so nice. A beautiful sandalwood.
And I could not add anything else- it just makes you smile and feel good. Perfect for colder days and early evening. Definitely belongs to my top10.

the exhaustion of the aftermath
We know it, we are aware of it: The more and the more intensely we engage with fragrances over the course of a perfumer's life, the more often we inevitably experience a "There was something - I know you!" when encountering a new scent that first touches our skin yet feels as familiar as an old friend.
It is not a spitting image, not a twin or a clone; it does not resemble it from beginning to end - usually, there are similarities, points of overlap, reminiscences of a great name from which a lesser-known one, it is hoped, benefits.
Not infrequently, the younger one is also cheaper, a bit simpler in expression and structure - a quote, but not yet a statement.
For the first time, I now experience the reverse case: A perfume, clearly younger than its olfactory alter ego, yet by no means more modest in appearance and with a distinctly confident price.

It took two or three breaths, then the kinship was clear: The not-so-small, wild beast with sharp claws had already crossed my path in "L'Eau d'Ambre" by L'Artisan Parfumeur.
There, it had still been hidden behind minty-light green, waiting, lurking, concealing its true nature, which is resinous and scratchy, dark, heated, wild.
And sexy, so very sexy.
A little dirty, only seemingly tamed, the power dialed back, almost brittle, controlled.
A true Ellena - grand and strong and powerful, yet never loud and clumsy, only seeking effects.

Mark Buxton makes the beast even bigger, even wilder in his "Emerald Reign" - no light-fresh soft opening warns me, strictly dark-bitter resin is immediately present.
No purring, no roaring - the beast has retracted its claws, seems relaxed yet fully alert in its aromatic-warm spiciness, which carries the heat of an entire long summer, its days and especially its nights.
Hot skin, rumpled sheets, the last shower a few hours ago.
The exhaustion of the aftermath, already the sparkle of what came before shines in its gaze.
Lustful, rough, and impetuous - and yet also holding, embracing, gentle.
Dark, tropical vanilla caresses beloved skin, tenderly, almost carefully, and yet still serious, mature, ripe.
And strong - so very strong.
Just one spray, distributed here and there and everywhere, surrounds me the whole long day, the night, and even in the morning still.
I dare not think what more would do - I am sure it would be too much for me.

PS: Franfan - thank you!

The Addictive Tartlet
What do I expect from a fragrance whose bottle resembles the muffins one loves to bake for children's birthday parties?
That calls itself "Emerald Reign" and immediately triggers verbal associations in me with the headache-inducing "Diamonds and Emeralds"?

Before I sprayed it on, I cautiously sniffed the sample just to be safe and immediately thought of "L'Eau d'Ambre Extrême," which I really enjoy at this time of year. So, I boldly applied a spray to my skin.

After evaporation, a slightly oily, tinted film remains on the skin, indicating a high fixative content and potentially leaving stains on clothing. I also immediately detect the fragrant benzoin resin, which beautifully binds spices and vanilla. Patchouli is used here very subtly for my taste and adds a slightly earthy, smoky note in the background, which could also come from incense.

The scent impression is warm, resinous, balsamic, enveloping, and triggers an immediate want-to-have effect in me, which can only be restrained by the rather high price. In line with the resin content, longevity and sillage are very good, but manageable for the environment with moderate use.

The direct comparison with "L'Eau d'Ambre Extrême" reveals some parallels, but overall I find "Emerald Reign" to be darker, with better-balanced spices, and I would definitely prefer this addictive black tartlet. For me, it’s more of a unisex fragrance that could also appeal to fans of "M7 Oud Absolu" and "Black Afgano."

Patchouli Bomb Tames the White Tiger
After testing the first fragrance from this special brand Benevolence earlier this week, I was a bit apprehensive about further sniff tests. Because that was so sweet and sticky, it was no longer festive. But luckily, Emerald Reign and Cherry Garden took a different path as the next test candidates. But just as intense, at least this Patchouli Spice Bomb that I tested here. It definitely has something of a puma cage and is very animalistic. House of Sillage pulls no punches and lives up to its name. Extravagant fragrances - it has to match the extreme bottles.

It starts very spicy, dark, and piercing. Oriental and almost overwhelming. The cardamom barely gets a chance to breathe and distribute sweetness. The woods and floral notes even less so; it quickly becomes clear who the king in the ring is: Patchouliiii! Mixed with a bit of bourbon vanilla and later becoming very soft, somewhat like in Reminescence L'Incroyable Patchouli. But the first hour is a fireworks display of the stinkiest kind and only for fans of dark, patchouli-heavy fragrances! Just about acceptable for celebrations for women, but for everything else, please do not reach for this white tiger!

Sillage is bombastic, and one should handle the perfume cakes of the "House of Sillage" sparingly. And by that, I mean 1-3 sprays absolute maximum! Because even so, you get at least 12 hours of the scent, and the patchouli base matures and becomes increasingly calm, the tiger becomes almost tame. The bottle is of course kitschy, but somehow also sympathetic. It definitely stretches the bow, but does so skillfully.

Bling Bling - if you like patchouli, you should take a look at House of Sillage here. However, for me, it's a bit too heavy and also too straightforward and clumsy. But it does patchouli as well as it can be done from hour 3!

For me, the best HoS: a resinous-spicy patchouli scent that still shows restraint despite the challenging combination and is suitable for everyday wear.

Es ist tatsächlich ein schöner Amber, mit viel Patchouli. Seltsamerweise erinnert es mich auch an Coromandel. Der Dry Down ist klassischer Amber, ein sehr guter.

Very much patchouli and benzoin with sandalwood. I can't detect any flowers and the spices don't make an impression either. Wear it, don't buy it.

An unusually bold and spicy patchouli-vanilla creation marketed as feminine, with a French touch that is unisex wearable.
